Hi Folks,

Here's the very latest on the Roller Hockey International Reunion and Inline Hockey Association professional league.

We've dropped the dinner; everyone saves big bucks and gets lots more!

In order to lower costs for attendees of the Roller Hockey International Reunion on Saturday, August 20, at the Anaheim Convention Center, the RHI Reunion Committee has decided to drop plans for a dinner. Instead of paying $50 per plate, attendees can now attend the RHI Reunion cocktail party, participate in a silent auction for RHI memorabilia, see all three Inline Hockey Association professional inline hockey games AND get a free Coke and hot dog -- all for the extremely low ticket price of $13.50. Now that's a deal! The Inline Hockey Association has arranged for free parking for all attendees, and in addition to the silent auction, attendees will also be able to win RHI memorabilia and other prizes that will be raffled off inside the Anaheim Arena during the IHA pro games.

RHI luminaries attending the Reunion will include players such as Rob Laurie, Joe Cook, Gerry St. Cyr; league co-founder Dennis Murphy, former team owners Murray Simkin, Rocky Kalish and Jerry Saperstein; Los Angeles Blades' coach John Black; radio announcer Lew Stowers; RHI administrators such as Chris Palmer, Phil Randolph and Steve Pona; and the RHI Reunion committee of Don Marshall, Jeff Buma, Anno Willison and Richard Graham.

The RHI Reunion facilities and IHA pro games are excellent. The newly refurbished Anaheim Arena is immaculate and seats 5,000 fans. Reunion attendees will walk directly to the arena from the RHI Reunion in the ballroom next door! Purchase your tickets at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena box office. For a great map of the area, please see http://www.anaheimconventioncenter.com/article.cfm?id=20.

Reunion Schedule: Saturday, August 20, 2005

3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. -- RHI Cocktail Party and Silent Auction
6:30 p.m. -- San Diego Sharks vs. Orange County Blazers
7:30 p.m. -- California Rink Rats vs. Anaheim Bullfrogs
8:30 p.m. -- California Bulls vs. Corona Cowboys

Attendees can purchase tickets at the Anaheim Arena box office. Those who paid $50 in advance for the originally planned RHI Reunion dinner will be reimbursed.

Hey Folks,

Something I didn't even know -- we're starting the RHI Reunion portion of the festivities even earlier in the day... at 3:30 p.m., instead of 5:30 p.m., as I'd indicated earlier.

I hope some of IHC's readers who live a reasonable distance from the Anaheim Convention Center will come to the event. I'd certainly appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Hey Folks,

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who plans to attend the RHI Reunion and IHA pro games so that I can get a better handle on the numbers.

Thanks. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I look forward to seeing a lot of my old buddies, and to meet some new friends. I'll also do my best to report on the IHA games...and cheerleaders -- I know IHC's readers expect FULL coverage. /wtimages/icons/wink.gif

$13.50 for the cocktail party. Is there an open bar? That's a good deal, plus see some games.

Looks like once again, the West Coast is developing the professional part of this sport. There are some big names playing in the IHA.

Sorry to say that all those East Coast leagues just don't measure up. Seems like they all go out of business, leaving a bunch of wannabee "pros" right where they started, nowhere.

I remember all the hype a while back from some guy named "Benny" talking about his league and where did that go?

We need a solid pro league and for some reason I just don't think it's going to happen in PA or NY or anywhere else win the land of harsh accents.

Hi johnny2suede,

Actually, it's $13.50 for the RHI cocktail party reception, silent auction and raffle, all three IHA games, and a free hot dog and a Coke. But you'll have to buy your own drinks, unless I win the lottery...

Don't be so hard on Benny Gulakiw. He, like many others, worked hard for years on making his professional inline hockey league dream come true. He's a great guy, he's got integrity, and I'll defend him all the way down the line.

There are so many obstacles to creating a professional inline hockey league. If it was easy, both the RHI and the WRHL would still be around.

Maybe a league like the PIHA could do something similar to the IHA, and have all the teams play out of one high-class arena. (If all the teams come from within a 60-mile radius, it's less of a regional rivalry, and maybe the players become more important than the city they come from, I don't know.) Then the PIHA champ could play the IHA champ for "national" bragging rights, at least until there were several more similar leagues that were successful and joined in the playoff system.

Time will tell. The NHL wasn't built in a day... and it almost crumbled last year.

Richard, Does that inclide parking? Either way, not a bad deal, maybe rub some elbows, maybe give some elbows.

It will be good to see some pro hockey in a good arena.

I'll be there, haven't been to the Disney area in ages. Maybe even take the Suede clan, we go where the junk food is.

I think the sport could use a legit pro league.

Are any of the RHI people involved?

Good luck to IHA, I wish them well.

BTW, what rules will they be playing? Checking, no offsides?

Hi johnny2Suede,

Yes, parking is included. Checking is legal. There is no offsides or illegal clearing. Many former RHI players will play in the IHA, and Chipper Righter, the former "Mr. VIP" for the Anaheim Bullrogs, now owns the team.

Hot dogs and Coke are junk food? I thought they were All-American. Damn. Ah well, then, I'll stick to beer. /wtimages/icons/wink.gif

I hope to meet you and your family at the event!
