now that we can all finally get back to watching hockey on tv, has anyone else noticed that the new proposed rules seem to want to make ice hockey more like roller. No red line, less obstructions, shootouts? Do you think that trying to make ice hockey faster and higher scoring will help or hurt the identity of roller hockey?

Only stupid versions of the inline game will hurt the image. Ramps are for roller derby. Shoot outs can certainly help broadcasting problems for ice hockey games. I've heard the "less obstruction" claim before and yet it didn't go away.

I don't think the rule changes are intentional (in trying to make it more like inline hockey) but seeing how inline hockey is my passion, I will appreaciate it for sure if implemented correctly. ;-)

I think that the changes will help the ice game but have not effect on roller; unless of course Bettman announces in his press conference that they got some of the rule change ideas from roller hockey. Somehow I don't think he will do that. It does feel good though that in a way the NHL has turned to us for help. The change that might have the biggest impact is a non roller hockey rule. The smaller goaltender equipment. The NHL snipers are going to be drooling this season.
