Since it seems like all the hype missed you guys here, I figured I'd let our loyal IHC readers know that the SW 2005 schedule is up.

Right now it's downloadable in PDF format or you can go to the individual state pages to view a team's schedule. The "pretty" tournament home page should be up shortly.

Hi Mike,

I'm waiting for a reply from Tim McManus so I can put up an interview I had with him recently. If you talk to him, tell him to e-mail me. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Did you at least try out for team nevada?

That was going to be my question. From what I heard the tryouts in Nevada were kind of sparse.

If you look at PA they have two mens teams so I guess they both had the money to come up with? Also in mens you did not have to tryout you just had to throw a team together so it would be who ever came up with the money could have a team. In the youth try-outs you had to have a $250 check ready if you made the team.

Ok I understand. Did they post that they were having tryouts on there webiste for adults or did they say that it was first come first server basis? Also what is the prize money the 1st place team wins?

State Wars is another joke tourney. Billed themselves as a "birth year" tourney to set themselves apart from other tourneys then wound-up combining 2 birth years just to field some teams, a joke. Some try-outs had 12 kids show-up and took all 12 just to field a team, a joke. Just field teams for the sake of having teams, never mind about making sure the teams will be competitive. Adult team try-outs, a joke. First come first served. You have the money, you're in. Original rink not ready in time. That was known in October but it took until February for it to be announced by State Wars. Just not the tourney it was billed to be.

I see where you are coming from all valid points, but you have to give it one chance and see if it succeeds. If it doesn't so be it, but right now it has not failed yet, lets talk about the tourney being a joke after it. I am going to be there, I hope it will be a good tournament.

You're right, it should be given a chance but when you start out on the wrong foot, it leaves a bad taste and leaves everyone skeptical as you can see in these posts. When you set out with a certain criteria, stick with it. Don't look to field teams just to have them. Make sure they are competitive, not just fill roster spots. It probaby would have been better to start smaller and build it up by going with fewer teams like if there was not enough talent or people of the correct age. We'll give 'em a chance but first impressions are lasting ones.

I aggree with you kings, lets just hope it all works out, I hope it is competitive

As far as the competitive issue, I think that was the point with the AAA and AA playoff brackets. I hope it will be competitive too, but all of us here know there's no way you can ever pull a team from Kentucky that is going to have a chance against the best lineup in a birth year from California. Why hold tryouts, have enough kids to field a team come down, and then tell them they can't go to the event because they're not good enough to compete with the big states? I think they went the right route and will separate the competitive levels after the states shake themselves out in round robin play.

In terms of combined years, I think it's naive to think that age divisions like 83-84 and 85-86 would have had a hope of fielding any sizable number of teams if the birth years remained separate. I know my parents wouldn't have shelled out for yet another tournament when I was 19-21 years old, and few kids that age have a hope of paying for it themselves. Saying it was "just to field more teams" is accurate, but I wouldn't say it was a joke - it was the only way to make those divisions fly.

A NARCh event probably wouldn't fly in those age groups if they did it by single birth year, even WITHOUT the residency requirements. Aren't DI and Juniors about 4 years each now?

I don't know enough about the adult teams to make any real comment on it, but not having tryouts is a dumb move on the part of anyone running an adult team that hopes to be successful. Politics should be out of the picture by the time you're an adult (wishful thinking, I know).

Its ok...Cause in Oklahoma we were told that if we wanted to have a State Wars Team Oklahoma...we would have to drive to St. Louis for a try-out...

How fair is that?

Im not 100% sure if it is a skating rink or a hockey facility but I know that they had somewhere for the try-out. There is pick-up hockey there once a week. We had the owner of the place ready to go...Just no help from State Wars...

We kinda got screwed...

We dont really get to play there..It is still a 2 hour drive for us...but it is better then a 6 hour drive to STL to PAY to try-out
