The FIRS is beginning today in Paris.
The two favorite seems to be the US and the Czech Team who is filled with some NHL players. Then they're some nice teams that could create a surprise: Italia, Switzerland and Canada (who has a surprising very young team). Spain and France also have a nice team.
It will be comfirmed in a couple days but a good friend from Czech Rep told me that one or two true NHL stars could complete the Czech Team next week.

The link in the post above jumps to the English language page, which is not updated as regularly as the French language page.
Also on the French language page are links to game schedules and results tables, those links are missing from the English language page.

Best game of the day was France vs. Italia. Great level this is two teams to watch. France won 2-1. The Italian players didn't seemed to be familiar enough with roller skates.

Hi John,
Thanks for the tips. Another suggestion for readers who want the very latest updates, but who don't speak French, is to translate the entire French site using FreeTranslation.com. I use it all the time; it's a great site.

Today the US team won easily 10 to 0 against mexico, and France defeated Canada 4-3 after a huge game. Great game from the two teams and specially from the canadian goaltender. The french goaltender was also solid between the pipe.

Hi Mosquitoes,
If what you're saying is true, this is either France's greatest victory ever in inline hockey, Canada's worst defeat, or both.
Do you have any more details?

I was at the game and France has a very solid team because they play very well together and develop a very smart play, look for them to play at least the semi finals. Canada has a very young team (looked like Junior Major) but very fast and fightfull. It was a great game to watch.

who are the nhl players on the Czech team

There is no NHL players in the czech team. As far as I know there two guys who have been drafted be not yet signed by the NHL. The only name on the czech team which sound like a former NHL player is Karel Rachunek, but he is the coach and i am not sure that he is the one who played in NHL.
For the canadian team, they all are under 21, all playing in junior major and one or two guys drafted. The goaltender is very good. France got 4 breakaways, all stopped by this young guy. With more experience and 2 or 3 veterans this team could be very dangerous.
Another team which could be dangerous is Switzerland. There are a bunch of professional ice hockey player, most of them playing in switz LNB. They don't skates as fast as the US, and don't have a very developped team play, but have a very good goaltender and are very efficient in front of the opposing net(kind of one shot one goal).

Switzerland just won 3-2 against USA in a very rough game.
Team USA played a better hockey but Switzerland played very dirty and manage to upset the US Team. Jamie Yoder was thrown out of the game because he yelled at the ref after a very strange decision. CJ has been hit so many times in so many dirty ways, he was even thrown over the board on a cross check.

Hi John,
Thanks so much for these updates. I appreciate them very much.
Looking at the scores of the games, it's apparent that many of the games were much tighter than in the past. How much, I wonder, is due to parity... and how much is due to the smaller nets? (Of course, these nets have always been in use at FIRS events, so I guess the second part of my question is a bit daft.)
Sincerely,
Richard Graham

I think the nets are maybe a little small but the final games were great to watch in a very nice arena. 3rd place was less physical and France did a very good prestation against Swiss to get bronze at home. The final was very physical and the USA had the puck most of the time with a lot of passing. The Czech had a really good defence and some incredibly talented players. Nice and close game.
For me, MVP is Mike Ciolli who has been awesome all tournament. Best Goalie is the Swiss goalie.

Haa, Ermm,
Well I'd second guessed your Guy's and Gal's out there would be a tad busy last Saturday, so as I've been in mobile phone text message contact with the GB Team Manager and his wife all week, I guessed that he would be in the stadium most of the day, I simply asked him to keep me updated by mobile texting.
For the remaining time I was in the garden soaking up the sunshine.
It was a pleasure to be of assistance!
