Dear inline hockey friends,
I would like to take this opportunity to let you know our upcoming Taipei YMCA Cup International Inline Hockey Championship being held in late August in Taiwan. As our main objective has always been to further the promotion of the sport of inline hockey, we are focusing on youth and womens categories this time. We have put a lot of hard work into organizing this tournament and have tried our best to make this event different from any other by gathering together funding and sponsorship to make the financial burden easier for all participants. To this point, for a four-day tournament we have managed to get the costs down to US $300 per player. This includes all transportation fees (excluding airfare), accommodation (5 star hotel), meals, activities and game fees. Coaches and team leaders will have full sponsorship and therefore will be taken care of during their stay in Taiwan free of charge. Further details are outlined in the official event flyer located at our website at www.taiwanhockey.com.
Taiwan has brought teams consistently to Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore and Europe. We have been working hard with Dave Easter (Canada), Michael Rodwell (Australia), Doug Cole (Hong Kong), Barry Hanson (Singapore) and Stella Capel (Great Britain) to increase the recognition of the sport worldwide. If you are interested in joining this tournament please email us at
[email protected] to find out if there are still any slots open. If you would like to know more about inline hockey in Taiwan and for updates regarding the 2005 Taipei YMCA Cup, please go to our website.

Mr Inge your right I just sent them an email asking for info. Would be great to get to Taiwan. Some of our parents can schedule work related trips. Remember we canceled out of the England trip last year because of the uncertainties but up until May we were going. Who know maybe we can make this happen. Maybe Mr. Frazier from TOUR Hockey can make the trip with us!

Thank you for all the kind replys regarding the tournament so far.
The teams confirming to attend to this point are:
Korea
Beijing, China
Japan
Hong Kong
Singapore
Australia
Taiwan will put up 2 to 3 teams per category.
And we are still talking to
Great Britain
New Zealand and a few other countries.
Personally I have brought 3 Taiwan teams to Canada for the junior world cup for each of the last two years and to 1 team to Florida in 2002 so I know what the financial burden is like. That's why we have worked so hard to try and get the price down. We are also working together with Tour Taiwan.
If there is anything at all I can do to help please let me know.
Michael

May I ask if this tournement is for National Teams as governed by FIRS or for scratch teams such as NARCH?
As the Sec of the British Roller Sports Federation who run the National teams I had not been informed.
All success for your competition.

Boardman,
Thank you for your reply.
The tournament is open to national teams, Narch style teams, community and club teams. Since inline hockey is still in the growing stages, we want it to be possible for anyone to participate. We have tried our best to reduce the costs just like the IIHF and FIRS tournaments so that it may be feasible for anyone interested to participate. The news of the tournament has come out a little late because of the time we needed to get all the sponsorship and funding for the players and coaches. I have sent emails to individuals at GBHI since I have met them twice in Canada at the World Inline Cup 03 and 04. If you would like a copy of the official invitation letter and tournament flyer, please email me at
[email protected] and I will send you copies right away. If you are interested in participating, let me know if there is anything I can do to assist you.
Best regards,
Michael

yeah it would be something to go all the way out there to play hockey, i looked into it for the wolves i found round trip tickets to be 1400 + per person... i can't afford that... too bad though, if it was cheaper i would try to get a team there
i'm not slow, i'm patient

Did some quick checking...
$830 from LA
$1022 JFK to Taipei United Airlines
That's for a single ticket and not the group rate either.

Hey Mike looks like a great idea. You may want to contact Jon Roux or Keith Knoll at AAU and see if there is a deal to the the USA teams there. I have talked to some of the players and they are very interested.
This way you could have 5 or more of the USA teams from mens to the 10U's and they would represent the USA for you.

LATEST UPDATE
2005 Taipei YMCA International Inline Hockey Championship
Just closed a major sponsorship deal with a local bank that will enable certain teams to participate in the tournament for free. All costs including accommodations, meals, transportation and game fees will be taken care of by the sponsor.
Some of our current teams qualify for this sponsorship but we still have an allocation for 1 or 2 teams.
As stated before, we are working hard to have a tournament where the players and coaches are rewarded for their commitment to the sport of inline hockey and to see this sport gain increased recognition internationally.
Please email me at
[email protected] for further details.

Hi Michael,
Wow, what an offer. That's fantastic. Please follow up and let IHC's readers know if a team that learned about the offer from Inline Hockey Central's Message Board takes you up on the offer and makes it to the tournament!
