View Full Version : Statistics and scheduling software

Yo,
I am looking for some recommendations from the league directors out there. I recently took over youth hockey operations at a rink, which is a slight step above what I used to do. Among the changes we are making is keeping statistics and making game schedules for about 20 in-house teams this fall. Now granted this isn't many, however we are on a tight time schedule with regards to all the other usages of the rink. I am pretty much looking for some recommendations on a program that easy allows block scheduling for specific interests such as hockey games and such; in other words, a program that can schedule a season, making sure teams play all other teams, and can possibly organize according to night, time, dates, etc.
Also, I am looking for software to keep track of a variety of hockey stats for the program. The more features and overall types of stats, the better. One that is web-friendly would also be nice so that in the future, the kids can see their names and stats online. I know of some out there, but I'm looking for opinions on the best.
Thanks!
Sincerely,
Justin Nazarenko

Hello,
I read your post and understand u are looking for software for scheduling and stats.
I'm not sure off hand of any that would best suit your needs but i am a website designer
and i would be able to make u a website for your league with pictures of the teams
and a stats board that you can update every week, and complete scheduling. You can include just about anything you want on your leagues website. The most popular things to include are schedules,
pictures of the kids in action, sponsors, updated stats weekly, bio's, coaches, parents, and whatever you ask us to include. Since you are running a league with 20 teams, even with software
its gonna be very time consuming to update stats and scheduling. If you are interested in such a website for your league just email me at
[email protected] If you are not interested i wish u luck in trying to find software.
Hi Justin
These guys did a pretty impressive job at the Global/CanAm

Scorecon is great for web-base, but can be costly if you don't have sponsors. If you are like any other league, budget constraints are an issue. I myself did most things with an excel spreadsheet, pencil and eraser. I used Cybersport, but it was clumsy and not very friendly. It kept a decent database, but would only allow accessibility for certain screens under certain menus etc. Somehwhat time consuming when generating a schedule. The only good thing is that it checked to make sure that teams only played each other the appropriate number of times. However, I still found errors with odd number divisions. It may have to do with the limitations of FoxPro. For any other leagues that I have organized, I used a manual template that has teams revolving around one central team ... kinda like a revolving cube. If you want the template, info etc. email me and I can attach the file. When you are trying to schedule different times of a night and different forums, sometimes it is easier to pull out a calendar and mark it down. Excel spreadsheets are great for this. Just print off a blank template that you created yourself and fill it out with the trusty pencil. I found this the easier especially if you had to make changes etc. I personally don't think that there is a cheap alternative to good ol' manual labour especially if the league is fairly small.
As for stats. etc. I am not a fan of keeping stats in a house league. It is up to us as adults to try and encourage play for fun ... at least that is what I learned after four years of university studying recreation and leisure. (ok. i'm off my soapbox now!!). However, I did keep some stats for playoff formats. It included wins/losses/ties and points for/against. This set up the playoff format which was a pseudo double elimination.
As a question for all, is there a demand for such software/web site? I have toyed with the idea, but never did any research to determine if it would of assistance to anyone.
Hope that answers all of your questions, Justin. If you have anything else, let me know. Be glad to help out!
Ciao

The ECRHA (Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association) uses HockeyStat. (http://www.hstat.com). . . They're reasonably priced, and the entry is really easy, not to mention the enormous wealth of stats that the program produces. You might want to check them out.

I have developed a Membership-Stats program in FileMakerPro specifically for Hockey.
It is very simple for everyone to use, and it does everything, print membership cards, print score sheets, and update stats to the internet.
Please contact me off this message board, and I can give you more details (Rich-trying to keep it non-commercial) :-)

Going along with the crowd:
Pointstreak.com
Sports IT-- www.sports-it.com
Pointstreak does stats and schedules only but is labor intensive and not cheap
Sports IT, like EZ Facility does it all front end (web based site mgmt) and back end (cash mgmt)
