Are they not helmet specific or are they all the same?.....If not you might want to specify which helmet they are for.

I have no clue actually. They are needed for all kinds of helmets. This is because all of our college boys like to remove them and cannot play any further without replacing them which is a real big fork for Nationals. Figured we would try to be helpful in finding a shipment for them.

Becca, when was that rule named? I know that youth ICE players require them, but in the INLINE RULE BOOK it does not meantion the need to have ear pieces. I am sure that you are right, but why are the college guys required to where them and the youth guys (in inline) not?

Actually I have been to many Nationals that it is mandatory for the ear pieces to be on the helmet along with the neck strap.
Rebecca try to get ahold of one of the helmet guys like maybe Evan from Nike to see if that is something that they can get for you. I know that all of the pro shops have them. They usually sell for about $5.00

Is everyone talking about the right thing here? There is the black, rubber piece which yes is required, but then there is the plastic colored or clear ear piece that covers the ear and has a small hole in it.

I heard earlier in the year it was to be a revision for 2005 but in checking the rulebook for USA Hockey Inline, no current requirement that ear guards be maintained in position in the helmets is shown. If your rules are governed by USA Hockey, then this should not be a mandatory requirement, unless it is tied to insurance in some way above and beyond what is indicated by the rules......

The majority of helmets use different ear guards...While there will be some crossover between models within the same manufacturer, I do not believe that the ear guards will cross over between manufacturers very easily.

We're referring to the plastic ear piece.

HECC approved helmets have been required by NCRHA/CRHL going back at least three years - removing the pieces voids the HECC approval (altering the helmet), so many players who just took them off and discarded them have been scrambling for a solution that doesn't require buying a new lid.

Mike, not trying to be a **** here, but the helmet is still HECC approved if the ear pieces are removed. In ice, they are required from Mite-Midget. In juniors, college, adult, they are not. The ice rule book specifically states that the pieces are required where the inline book does not. I know this is not a solution now, but it maybe something you or Rebecca can bring to the rules committee at a later time.

so tired of this conversation already - we locked it finally after 4 pages on our own forum.

No, the HECC certification is voided if the ear pieces are removed.

What you probably mean is that USAHIL doesn't require HECC approved lids over the age of 18 - which will change someday. However, NCRHA does and CRHL did.

I am burnt out on this discussion. You can go look it up on the NCRHA MB and see why.

Hey Beck... Not even bringing up the ear pieces rule so I won't bother you with that BUT I work for the Bauer Warranty repair shop (Total Sports Repair) Located in NH and I can probably get you something for the Bauer and Nike helmets easily.. BUT CCM and any of the others may be a challenge... Send me an Email as I don't have a comp right now and am unable to get on here everyday and let me know and I will see what I can do for you... Hi Rebecca, maybe Mike Hunt can help you with getting them from CCM since our Rink Rat team is sponsored by them. Hope everything works out for you.

Ok I wondered if this was a unique situation to NCRHA/CRHL, as this does not apply to USA Hockey for 18 and older, or collegiate club under their regulations.

Hey all you guys! THANKS for all the help.
Still looking. I had hoped these plastic things were all generic and fit different helmets but I was wrong and seems they are specific to the lid. I guess I will now try to find a mixed group, still looking though for one retailer/wholesaler to do the deal for me.

Thanks Mike too!!!
And Hiiiiiiiii Darrell!
