View Full Version : Mudraker Post..."The Challenge Cup"
Awwright.....when do we have the "unification" tournament?
A round robin tournament which has the Championship teams from XIHL, PIHA, and MLRH playing off (full contact of course)to determine the ultimate "Pro Inline League" bragging rights.
"The Pro Inline League Challenge Cup" Played in a larger venue with a total of 5 games to establish the top team for Pro League inline hockey.....Maybe a nice cash prize and some media hype?.....
Hey it's a thought.

Can players play for more than 1 team? When are the trade deadlines? Come on, Mike. Let's set the rules now! Can an owner enter 2 teams? The list is endless:)
It's pretty simple....if your team didn;t win the PIHA, XIHL, or MLRH Championship, and your name ain't on the roster on the championship game day scoresheet....you ain't playin'.

I thought you might go for the top 2 teams from each. Play Friday night and Saturday and have Finals on Sunday.

Win or lose in PIHA, the Growl wants this challenge. It was a topic of conversation after our game last night as. However we have no interest in playing anyone from the MLRH.

Brian Tro and I already had discussion on this topic beginning several weeks ago. However I do not want to do anything to interupt our season as our primary goal is to win a PIHA championship. As I said, win or lose once we are through, yes I think a game with the werewolves would be a great event. Let's revisit this topic in a while.

Well I think this Growl team would win. Basically have the best of the Glads and Kringer with Pinero and Danny Costanza thrown in. The left handed CJ Yoder.
If you dont hit me im not stopping it.

Why exclude the MLRH Champ? The only people who need to be involved are the three teams. No Bill, Steve, Benny. Just the team reps setting it up.

Its a great idea and like Flynn said we have talked about it briefly. The rules and such would have to get ironed out but it would be alot of fun.

You got my vote !! I have no problem including the MLRH champs either. Possible problems though. If Minutemen take the championship, half the team are Werewolves players including myself. If the Rage take the MLRH championship, they also have a bunch of guys from the Werewolves. Guess we have to wait to see what the results are first. What are the dates for the MLRH and PIHA championships ?

it would surely be a good game and I know its your opinion....but to say that they would kill the Growl is a bit much...the real question is who can drink the most jager and wheel the most ladies...in either case if Flynn suits up or the Growl I'd like to change my pick to the Wolves....:)

That's not even an issue because none of our (Werewolves) guys would choose to play on a different team against us. It all comes down to who actually wins these championships.
Yes if the Minutemen ever prevailed, that might make it a house league game lol.

Then it could be the "trade" thing comes into it.

03-01-2005, 02:00 PM
I believe that we are talking about team rosters consisting of players who actually won a championship in there respective league. Allowing trades would defeat the whole purpose.

But if the Wolves players were also on the PIHA team that won and as you have stated they would play for the Wolves then is it fair for the PIHA team to skate short-handed? They should be able to add to their roster to replace the Wolves players.
Brooklynite10
03-01-2005, 03:20 PM
If the Minutemen were to win PIHA, then the whole scenario of 2 champions playing each other could not happen. If you replace players on Minutemen to play in this showdown, then the showdown would be bogus because the Minutemen would be just be a bunch of guys assembled and not the actual championship squad.
Hope you understand, don't know any other way to put it.

Sort of like trying to add players at the last minute for a semi final game? Just because it doesn't seem probable or right to you doesn't mean someone won't try and make it happen. Seen it happen too many times! But at least I understand what you meant now.

cool...it's not like there would be 1 or 2 guys to replace. 8 of the 12 Minutemen skaters were on the Werewolves roster at some point during the season; 5 who competed in the XIHL championship game.

Hey SpiderRat,
Why NOT Bill, Steve and Benny? I'd pay good money to watch those guys play.
Let's see, Bill would have to be a forward, with that long hair blowing out from behind his helmet while he's on a breakway -- (the wind would be created by the cooling fans in the rink, not by Bill's speed, of course).
Benny, I think, would be an enforcer. He's got the build. I can just see him lining up Bill for a (clean) hit in the corner.
I haven't yet met Steve, so let's just put him in net. If you can play goalie, SpiderRat, anyone can. /wtimages/icons/wink.gif
We also need to get Charlie Yoder out there, and then the rest of the team owners from the various leagues and their wives. Your team loses, your wife doesn't get her anniversary present... I think that would increase the stakes quite a bit.../wtimages/icons/shocked.gif

And where shall we position you on the rink??? Hmmmm....
Your right on the money with Bill, Benny on the other hand, wouldn't make a good enforcer. I could see him now, should I check him, no, maybe I won't check him, no wait, sure I'll check him, no wait, STEVE!!!!, can I check him??? Steve in net, nah, too wirey. He wouldn't take up much net space. Plus how would we get a hold of Steve, he doesn't return calls or emails.

You know, this is really one heck of an idea. But, why limit it to those 3 leagues. Why not Narch & Torhs as well? Seriously. If you win a championship of a league that meets certain basic critieria, you can ask for an invite. Call it the Mike Eagan Invitational!
Seriously though. I do like this idea. A no BS, put up or shut up, contact roller hockey championship. Only drawback is that it would have to be a tourney :(

lets put it this way, the Growl should win if they ever played the Wolves, they are bascially what the XIHL all star team would look like if the wolves werent in the league, plus they have costanza, deprima, and vivona... they should win the game, but the wolves play great as a team and play great D and the goaltending on their team is great too, i would love to see this game happen.

HEY BUUUDDY !! Welcome to the board. Still on a high from our championship, what about you ?
If you read my first post, the suggestion was: "The Unification Tournament".....The desire is to get everyone, warts and egos and all back under the same roof...at least for a tournament....it would be a start.

Of course I have to disagree. The Growl are a great bunch of players, but not the complete package that we have. We have 3 lines that can DO IT ALL, with a 4th line that doesn't see much game time, but would probably be a #2 line on almost any other team. 8 different goal scorers with all 12 guys contributing at least 1 point in the championship game this past Sunday. Not only that, but each of our lines can put the clamps down on DEF. Would love to see this game happen too, but not at the expense of my Minutemen getting a PIHA championship.

I can still remember how it felt from the 2002 Finals in Denver. Didn't have the home floor advantage and had to play a team we had never faced. It was really exciting and I felt that way for at least 2 weeks. Hope that feeling stays with you awhile! Nothing like a Championship!

yeah but you haven't seen anything till you've seen the "yoder floater". and don't get anywhere within 10 feet of him or the gaffe will get you.
Roger, I don't believe you've ever met me. I'm 6'4", 285lbs. Rich knows because he's met me. Your perception of me based on one phone conversation and a couple of e-mails is not accurate. Once you acutally get to know me, I'm sure you'll really not like me, because not only would I make a good enforcer, but I'm tough S.O.B. that plays a "No Fear" style. I would not hesitate to take a run at a goalie who ventures too far from his crease or lay-out a skater coming up the middle with his head down. Yeah, that move might cause his team mates to come down on me, but the pure joy of teaching a someone a lesson and "setting a tone" is what I'm all about. I don't hit and run and I'm not cheap or dirty. I take on ALL who want a piece.

Hi Benny,
Great post. I appreciate you for standing up and giving back what you received, and not asking me to take down the post that prompted yours. I think that if more of the sports administrators showed that gumption for give-and-take, inline hockey would be better for it.
Guys like you with thick skin and a passion for growing inline hockey are just what this sport needs, and I salute you.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. The most fun I've had is when I'm looking down at a 6'4" goon, as he's lying in my crease, and me saying, I told ya so. Guys usually only skate through my crease once. Looking forward to playing against you Benny.
Disclaimer: I do not advocate violence. Sure an occasional goal stick may get lodged up someone's behind for obstructing a tenders view, or skating through an innocent goalies crease, I still say violence has no place in hockey. How was that Richard?
