Mosenson Scholarship Awarded

Scholarship Awarded to Penn State Freshman

The Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (ECRHA) is proud to announce Corey Calajoe from Penn State University as the first recipient of the ECRHA Jeffrey Mosenson Scholarship.

As a freshman from Pearl River, NY, Calajoe has appeared in 13 games for the Nittany Lions Division I squad this season.

An honor student during his time at Pearl River High School, Calajoe played many
varsity sports including cross-country, ice hockey, and track and field. In addition to school sports, Calajoe played for and is active within the Pearl River Hockey Club and Pearl River Raptors hockey team. Corey has been playing street hockey in his neighborhood since the age of six and to this day, his love for hockey, particularly roller hockey, continues to thrive.

??Corey Calajoe is one of the finest young men in our community,? wrote Cindy Mauro Reisenauer, President of the Pearl River Hockey Club. ??He has earned that distinction through his tremendous work ethic and sense of commitment to community and family.?

The ECRHA Jeffrey Mosenson Scholarship is awarded to a high-school senior (incoming college freshman) who joins an ECRHA member club or begins his/her own at their respective collegiate institution. All scholarship money is to be used exclusively for tuition and/or books and school supplies. This year??s scholarship is in the amount of $600.

The scholarship is awarded in the memory of Jeffrey Mosenson, an ECRHA staff
member, who tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident the morning of January 28, 2003, at the young age of 20 years old. At the time of his accident, Mosenson was on his way to attend classes at the New York Institute of Technology where he was studying to become a physician??s assistant. Mosenson had recently joined the ECRHA staff and served as an EMT at the ECRHA preseason jamboree at Skate Safe America treating minor injuries at the event and then traveled with Team ECRHA to Las Vegas, NV in the capacity of team trainer during the NARCh WinterNationals event later in the season.

In addition to his contributions to the ECRHA, Mosenson was very active in his local community. Jeffrey was very active as a member of several local fire departments, serving as a firefighter in Jericho, NY, an EMT in Commack, NY, and a dispatcher for the Jericho, Melville, and Lakeland Volunteer fire departments. In addition to his penchant for fire fighting, Jeffrey was also very active in the sporting community as well.

Jeffrey played, coached, and officiated roller hockey, worked as a lifeguard and
swimming instructor, played baseball, and participated in the JCC Maccabi Games for seven years in addition to his many other accomplishments.

Jonathan Mosenson, the younger brother of Jeffrey, participates in the ECRHA as a
member of the Hofstra University Roller Hockey Club.

The ECRHA would like to extend our appreciation to all applicants this year. All of your accomplishments are remarkable and made it a very difficult decision for the selection committee to make.
