Who is going to tryout for the Cougars, the new MLRH team? Tryouts are Saturday at 7:00 PM at Skaters Choice. The Rink is running the team.

Are these the same Cougars who were supposed to play XIHL? I remember reading on the XIHL website that those Cougars were supposed to play out of Skater's Choice. If the team is the same, and considering there suspension from the XIHL, shouldn't MLRH be worried about the professionality of the club? By the way does anyone know when a schedule for MLRH is coming out as I am very interested in attending a few games in hope of seeing some hockey on par with what I thought was a very high standard (entertainment value) they set last year, but seeing as it's a whole new group of teams in should be interesting as-well.

I know that this is in fact a different owner then the XIHL. The very same guy tried to enter a team into PIHA and pulled our leg for several months. The youth travel club out of Skaters Choice is called the Cougars and that is where they are getting the name from and why it has remained the same even with different management. I can speak volumns about the class of their youth organization and if the rink is running a team, they have given no reason to believe that they arnt as top notch as the cougars travel program.

Skaters Choice is on Hollydell Ave in Sewell (off of Delsea Drive). Check out their website for directions www.SkatersChoice.com
Or call Mike Stover at (856) 582-1600, he is in charge.
As a point of fact, Mike Stover is the person who committed to putting in a Cougars team in XIHL this season, then we never heard from him again. When it became evident that the Cougars were going to fail to field a team for the second consecutive weekend, that's when they were suspended. What kind of got us bent was that the Ottakringer initially wanted to play out of SkatersChoice. When Stover said he wanted to put his own team in the league, we told the Ottakringer to find a new home or they couldn't play. So at the last minute, they had to scramble to find a rink, which they eventually did at the Flyer's Skate Zone. Then the Cougars bail. Nice! Now, if Stover and the Cougars had a problem with the XIHL, any of it's staff or the way the league was run, we never knew it because they just stopped communicating with us. Not trying to stir things up, just want to provide facts from our side.

Hi CycloneWinger,
Let's not get petty or make personal attacks. I didn't see anything in Benny's post to warrant your comments.
Thank you.

Im not really sure when the full season schedule is coming out for MLRH. The NC Knights (my team) starts our season this weekend at home vs. the VA Wings but, I have yet to see the remainder of our schedule despite being one of the 2 people running the team out of our rink. Not sure what's going on but, hopefully we'll have more info soon. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks

I have to ask you this cyclone why are you so rude to people. Why do you try to rile them all up. Were you beat as a child. Or do you just have no class and like to cause controversy. Benny is a good guy and tries to do what is best for his league. Why step up and smack the man in the face for trying to put a product out that we all want to enjoy. Its so nice to know that there are still babies among us. Step up and offer help to fix the problems or start being constructive. Please don't attack the people who do so much for all of us.

You need to grow some skin and get a life.
If this is it for you, if this is what you have worked your whole life to be, then good for you, I on the other get kicks on all of your post on this section. There is no such thing as Pro Inline Hockey, I know about Pro Sports and this is not it. Owners of so called Pro Team in inline, own what? They dont even own the rights to nothing. Bunch of people with too much time on there hands. If this is my last post because of I get banned then so be it. Evan Baker from Nike said it best when he told me that all Pro Sports are B/S, and he was talking about the current Inline so called leagues. I'll stay off the boards on the Pro section let you all play with your toys.

Wasn't it me who was correcting CWinger about the use of you're vs your? I pm'd CWinger to see if I could find out why he was so against Benny but he won't say. And told me that my kid sucked. Nice to see he hasn't changed. No more feeding trolls.

actually the owner for the NJ Werewolves is a real owner, pays for everything.... maybe not real as opposed to NHL teams but as real as these leagues will ever get...

I see no mention of this game on the MLRH website, despite their recent posting on games between the Philly Rage, and DC Dawgs, as well as the game between the NC team and the Virginia Wings.

The rage game is being played right now. By the way the attendance at the game is great. All 20 people that are there give or take a few.....more like take!!!

About 15 people.
DC 8
Rage 7
Back and forth until the final minute of the game.
So was it a good game?..fun to watch?....how many players on the rosters?
SpeedDemon
01-17-2005, 04:52 PM
It was a good game. Everyone was rusty it seemed on both teams.
DC had about 9 guys. Philly had 7 until the 3rd period, then picked up one more. Five additional Philly players who were rostered and in attendance were told they cannot play by the XIHL because they're under contract with them until the end of the season, so they were not allowed to dress. I suppose you have to protect that multi-million dollar talent ... or something. I could see getting a committment from players and wanting them to stick it out until the end, but if there is no conflict, that rule is just plain assanine.
And yes, I know the MLRH has had the same rule in the past. I'm attacking the concept.
WMBG_GM
01-17-2005, 05:36 PM
Actually, that rule is there to help reassure an owner that his star forward won't get his wrist broken in some game that means nothing to the owner 2 weeks before the playoffs....
Granted, I realize that today, this doesn't apply league wide, but: Some owners do indeed pickup the tab for things and it is fair to them to have that. If I'm going to shell out $$ for you to play shouldn't I have some assurances that if you do get injured playing hockey, it will be in a game that I have an interest in (as an owner)?

I still don't get it, though. Unless an owner is paying for all my expenses including, but not limited to:
tolls
gas
wear/tear on my vehicle
per diem expenses for all trips
all equipment
practice and game expenses
lodging
medical expenses
training expenses including all the routine supplements some people take
... unless that is all being covered, I'm still paying to play. Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for anything from anyone. But as long as I'm paying to play, I don't feel a rule like this is just, nor should be allowed to be enforced. I play to have fun, and I don't have fun if I can't play.
Except for car mileage, skates, sticks and shin pads, as well as a few meals on the road(he also picked up some of them), this owner did pick up the tab.....He also flew this team across country twice, with all expenses paid but meals and personal entertainment......
I understand what you are saying because my son is also affected, but in exchange for these perks...I think the owner could expect his players to forego one game.....not too much to ask.....
This is the first I have heard about this, but honestly I was wondering too whether this would be an issue......If my son hadn't been working, he would have been one of the 5 standing at rinkside possibly.

As a spectator to these games I pay to see certain players (and yes I have paid in many places to watch) and if I find these players have decided to play elsewhere that night I feel like there has been some false advertising or even a thumbing of their noses at the fans. Why should I loyally support a league of players that don't support the league or the fans back? If you are hurt that's one thing but the choice to play should be made at the beginning of the season not in the middle or the end. Tournaments are one thing (and the contracts support them) but another regional league is quite something else. If the leagues were staggered there would be no problem.

Well it was a 2 PM game on a Monday..... We were missing our top 6 players cause of that fact.
Somerset_GM

The players in question have all of those things paid for, and more. I dont like the rule either but as Ben stated it is there for a legit reason.

well its a good thing you did not come up to watch the philly vs dc game, ugly hockey at an ugly time in a rink that can't support checking... besides players on the sidelines, maybe 10 other people were there! and thats a big MAYBE
Falcons77
01-18-2005, 04:53 PM
I agree, but DC was missing its top 8 players and they had 450+ fans at their home game. They were in the Washington Post and Fox 5 and CBS 9 are doing stories on the team next week. We are shooting for 600 fans next game.

The Cougars want some of the players from their travel program to tie the programs together, but there are also experiences MLRH players on the team.
