View Full Version : Looking for Teams

NPHL44

The NPHL is looking for teams in Southwestern Pennsylvania, South Central Pennsylvania, Northwestern Maryland, and Northeastern West Virginia. There are two distinct conferences in the league and travel is not an issue because the only non conference games occur on two separate days per season (one non conference game day in Pittsburgh and the other in Northern Maryland). The two separate conferences are the Allegheny Conference which is for teams in Southwestern Pennsylvania, and the Mason Dioxon Conferece which encompasses Northwestern Maryland, South Central Pennsylvania, and Northeastern West Virgina. The league is free to join and most players are in High School and College. During season play, which begins in May, we play at outdoor rinks across the region. For more information, you can check out our website at www.nphl.cjb.net or email us at [email protected] Thanks for your interest.

What do you mean "the league is free to join"?

A little more info please. Is this a 'new league' to rival PIHA, XIHL, MLRH, XXXX, YYYY, ZZZZ..... you get my point? Sorry, more info would very much be appreciated. Thanks!

By the "free to join," I mean that all players and teams can join the league for free and there is no entrance cost. This is largely due to our play at outdoor rinks around the area which do not charge money to rent. The league is strictly amateur (not a new league to rival the Pros) and our basic idea is to grow the teams along with the league. That means that anyone with a group of fairly talented hockey players can start up a team and bring it into the league. So far teams include the Kennedy Predators, Fox Chapel Falcons, and Cuddy North Stars in the Allegheny Conference, and the McHenry Massive in the Mason Dixon Conference. To be more specific, some areas that we are looking to get teams in include Cumberland Md, Morgantown Wv, Uniontown Pa, and Beaver Pa.

What is the minimum age for the league? And is the league a contact league?

The minimum age for the league is 15 though most players are 17 or 18. There is no checking but a little pushing in front of the net is acceptable, but overall non contact.

More information please...

Travel expectations, need for home rink, number of games, referee and their expense, outside (with a ball or puck), expected league run dates ect...

Travel Expectations are relatively low from teams in the Pittsburgh Area and the majority of the season takes place around the suburbs of the city. For one game a year there is a need to travel to Maryland, (the Deep Creek area which is around a 2 hour drive from Pittsburgh), but not much else. Future expansion (2006) could include a divsion in the northern part of the state with Erie and Titusville. There is a need for a home rink and this usually means an outdoor one with boards and lighting. There are approximately 16 games in the season per team and league play runs from May through July. Playoffs happen in August and each round is a best of 3 series. Referees are available for free (we provide some training and low contact leads to low penalties). We use a ball, normally an Easton Tourney ball or in the winter, a cold weather ball.

We have filled quite a few slots and are beginning to target specific areas. There is one area that we really would like to get for the NPHL's summer season, and that is Somerset, PA. If any teams are interested in filling this location, which would be the central location of our Eastern Conference, please let me know via a PM. Thanks
