2005 USA Hockey InLine Announces Dates, Format for 2005 Regional Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- USA Hockey InLine, the official inline hockey program of USA Hockey, has announced the dates and sites for the 2005 USA Hockey InLine Regional Championships. The Regional Championships are part of a nationwide playoff system for USA Hockey InLine-sanctioned teams and are designed to provide high-level playing opportunities for USA Hockey InLine's growing membership.
In preparation for the Regional Championships, USA Hockey InLine has created a partnership with Jay Milton (Summerville, S.C.) as tournament coordinator. Milton brings eight credible years in event operations as tournament director for the Coastal Cup Southeast Hockey Series to USA Hockey InLine. Milton will focus on providing USA Hockey InLine players with a competitively balanced playing environment for well-structured teams and programs. To ensure this level of quality competition, and keeping with USA Hockey InLine policy, the Regional Championships are open only to teams representing sanctioned leagues or rinks.
The Regional Championships will serve as a qualifying system for the upcoming 2005 USA Hockey InLine National Championship. The top two teams from each age group will qualify to compete in the top division, the Stars Division, at the National Championship, while all other teams will be invited to participate in the Stripes Division. The 2005 USA Hockey InLine National Championship will be held July 30-Aug. 6 in Voorhees, N.J. at the Flyers Skate Zone.
"The format for the 2005 USA Hockey InLine Regional and National Championships will produce an exciting event season," said Gary Del Vecchio (Colorado Springs, Colo.), director of USA Hockey InLine. "The tournaments will be fun, fair and above all committed to customer satisfaction. Also, with the collaboration with Jay Milton, we will now be able to implement services and benefits that will assist everyone involved in the sport."
This year's Regional Championship tournaments will offer competition in the 8-and-Under, 10-and-Under, 12-and-Under, 14-and-Under and 17-and-Under age divisions at each location.
Each Regional Championship tournament will be hosted by a USA Hockey InLine-sanctioned league and will be managed by a USA Hockey InLine Regional Championship tournament director and event support staff. Team and individual awards will be presented to first place finishers and individual awards to second place finishers in each age division.
"I believe in USA Hockey InLine's philosophy on having teams represent sanctioned programs versus the widely used open roster rules," said Milton. "I feel that I can assist these efforts and enhance these events, while enabling the USA Hockey InLine national office staff to focus on the development of the sport at all levels."

2005 Regional Championship Highlights/General Information
-USA Hockey InLine Regional Championship tournaments will be held in March, April, May and June with teams competing in the following age divisions: 8-and-Under, 10-and-Under, 12-and-Under, 14-and-Under and 17-and-Under. Competition will be offered in the same age divisions at the 2005 USA Hockey InLine National Championships.
-Team entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for each Regional Championship until each division has been sold out.
-Team entries for each tournament will be accepted until two weeks before each Regional Championship begins.
-Each of the more than 350 leagues/rinks sanctioned with USA Hockey InLine is eligible to enter teams.
-A full roster consists of no more than four staff members (coaches and managers) and 17 players (15 skaters and two goaltenders).
-All participants must be currently registered members of USA Hockey InLine for the 2004-05 membership registration season.
-A player's age on Dec. 31, 2004, will determine the age division in which he/she is eligible to compete.
-Individual games will feature two 12-minute stop-time halves and the use of the IDS Pro-Shot Puck, the official puck of USA Hockey InLine.
-Games will be played according to the 2003-2005 Official Rules of USA Hockey InLine. Body checking will not be permitted. There will be no rules prohibiting offsides or clearing.
-The number of teams entered will dictate the tournament format at each Regional Championship. All teams are guaranteed to play a minimum of three games.
