BUFFALO WINGS SEMI-PRO TEAM TO MAKE XIHL DEBUT
To play New Jersey Werewolves at Kenan Arena December 19th

The world??s premier roller hockey organization, the Buffalo Wings, is pleased to announce that they have entered their Nike-sponsored Buffalo Wings adult elite team in the recently formed ??pro-style? eXtreme Inline Hockey League (XIHL). The Wings will play their only XIHL home game on Sunday, December 19th at 2pm against the New Jersey Werewolves. The game will be played in the middle of the Buffalo Wings organization??s perennial Xmas Winter Wings Cup Tournament for amateur roller hockey teams of all ages at Lockport??s Kenan Arena.

The XIHL is a full-contact, elite inline hockey league featuring the best roller hockey players in North America. Games are played in a ??pro-style? format in a traditional geographic travel league structure and is operated with the highest level of integrity and professionalism. A Buffalo Wings pro team played in Roller Hockey International (RHI) and Major League Roller Hockey (MLRH), the last vestiges of over-budgeted pro roller hockey, from 1997 through 1999. RHI folded after the 1999 season.

The Wings?? organization is very excited to compliment its Nike-sponsored elite team efforts throughout the elite roller hockey tournament circuit (NARCh, TORHS, USA Hockey Inline) by competing in the newly formed XIHL. The Wings team is comprised entirely of extraordinarily talented home-grown roller hockey players. All have played in Buffalo Wings offerings, including the Buffalo Wings Roller Hockey League (BWRHL) and Buffalo Wings Cup Tournaments at one time or another throughout the organization??s history.

Buffalo Wings Roller Hockey League (BWRHL)-bred players who have made the team include captain Eric Haak (Lockport), nationally-ranked roller hockey goaltender Jason Flowers (Lancaster), 18 year-old sensation Kyle Baumgardner (Kenmore), and defensive forward Bart Nawojski (Depew), and old veteran RHI pugilist Ken Corp (Buffalo Riverside).

Despite the fact of the Nike Buffalo Wings semi-pro team is currently comprised almost entirely of players with no professional ice hockey experience (other than Corp), Haak is confident that, ??our home grown players want to prove to the roller hockey world that we have the best roller hockey players there are right here in our own Buffalo Wings organization.? Flowers adds, ??Whenever our elite teams travel to other cities for national amateur tournaments, we??re always cognizant of putting Buffalo on the map by winning gold medals; now it??s for us to prove ourselves at this new semi-pro level.?

They team will be facing XIHL opponents from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut for their inaugural season. The avian-reptiles on wheels will take on the rolling human-canine hybrids in the Sunday, December 19th at 2pm game to be taped by LCTV for television broadcast across Adelphia Cable.

Buffalo Wings organization founder and co-owner, Jason Klein, says, ??We??re guessing that there??s an un-satiated appetite of sorts for pro hockey of any kind right now in Western New York, semi-pro or otherwise, so we??re expecting a full house for our home game.?

He adds, ??We have the best roller hockey goalie in the world in Jason Flowers, hard-to-hit-high-flying forwards that can put the puck in the net at any time, and pugilists that aren??t afraid to drop the gloves when needed.?

Tickets are $5 per game and are now on sale by contacting the Buffalo Wings at 903-2658 or [email protected] All participating players in the Xmas Winter Wings Cup tournament will be given one free ticket for each game.

The Buffalo Wings semi-pro team will be holding an open practice for the media at the Kenan Arena on Saturday, December 4th at 3pm. Open registration for the Buffalo Wings Xmas Winter Wings Cup ends on December 1st. Registration for the BWRHL winter session ends January 22nd.
