Any help wud b greatly appreciated!!!

First thing, change your pads. Butterfly tending is key in inline hockey. With the shooter having the huge edge because of the wheels, you'll need to eliminate as much of the net as possible. Unlike ice hockey where you have more reaction time, deflections and low shots will be covered with the butterfly style. Stay up as long as you can to try and force the shooter to commit first. Most important, start skating as much as you can. I've always believed that the goalie needs to be the best skater on the floor. Once you've got your wheels under you, learning your own style will be easier. Good luck, let me know how your doing. We crazy tenders need to look out for each other.

It's a good thing the question wasn't about refing. How to make the right call, how do the refs decide zones, oh yea, how to skate without putting yourself in the hospital while tripping over the blue, while learning how to skate backwards. Don't mess with me! I didn't make my anger management meeting last night and I'm in a foul mood! LOL

KT:

As my team's stand-in goalkeeper myself (when the regular guy ain't here), and it looks like I'm gonna have to do this again tonight, please allow me to give you the following:

1. never let 'em beat you low, if they beat you high because you are taking away their low openings, then okay.

2. always get as far out of the goal toward the puck as you can...as long as you are not getting beat by people skating past you, you are not out too far...you can almost never (almost) be too far out...if you sit back on the goal line, however, you are giveing 'em almost the whole goal to shoot at...this is the same as any soccer goalkeeper will tell you, eh?

3. Draw imaginary lines from the puck to the goal corners, then draw a "box" between the lines in front of you. This box is where the puck has to go through if it is to go into the goal. Defend the box in front of you, not the goal behind you. Don't even worry about the goal behind you, just cover that box in front of you.

About that box, notice that it shrinks if you:
a. move closer to the puck,
b. the puck moves closer to you (to the goal),
c. the puck moves more toward the wing.

the box gets bigger if the puck
a. moves into the slot from the wing,or
b. you move back into the goal,or
c. the puck moves away from the goal.

notice that the bottom line of the box is always on the floor, no matter where the puck moves, or how you move...

4. Talk to your teammates constantly, make sure they know that you are giving them information, not orders or directions, keep up the encouragement...I am sure you do this as the team leader and as a defender already...

5. Try to use your stick as much as possible, don't be lazy and start to count on saving everything with the legs, glove, etc...all parts of your body will come in handy, and will come into use, but you want to challenge yourself to get everything possible with the stick, and the rest will follow...

That thing above about staying up as long as possible against a breakaway is also good advice...that's the thing I'm lousiest at...

good luck, have fun...

Okay, let's look at the old report card from tonight...played for my team, and stood in for the game after ours as well...gave up at least three goals in each game that I didn't get down fast enough, and at least one goal per game I can attribute to not being out far enough on the shooter...got tired at the end of the second game and let in a couple that were good shots, but I should have gotten down much better, and one I even reached down with the glove, instead of using the stick. Laterally didn't go hard all the way across, and two went off me into the net...

...so...

...tonight I violated just about every tenent of good goalkeeping that I gave you earlier...in the final tally, I was just good enough to keep us in the game, and my teammates did well on the other end...tied both games, 6-6 and 9-9, which means, if I had just gotten to one...more...puck...in...each...game...

well it was my next trainin session in goal today. i was a bit better taking into account wot u guys have sed....cheers!

im finding the biggest problem at the moment is when i come out of net judging how far out of the net i am for skating back with the player, and also how central i am, kept on drifting to one side. also playing with rockered skates aint the best plan, gonna have to get my old hilos out i think!

thanks for all the help, i got 2 more hrs in net b4 the matches. im just counting on the fact that the guys i have beeb practising with have a lot better shots then the girls ill b playing with....fingers crossed!!!

Forget the high/lo's. Get a pair of ice goalie skates, have the blade taken off, a low profile frame put on, and goalie wheels put on. I recommend the RinkRat goalie wheel. The best I've used to date. The goalie boot and wheels will do wonders for your stability. Good luck.
