Roller Sports to be Considered for 2012 Olympics

VOTE FOR ROLLER SPORTS

Fox Sports is conducting a poll to see which sport should be considered for the 2012 Olympics. According to the London Associated Press, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is considering one of five sports for Olympic inclusion at the 2012 games in New York City. Those sports include: Roller Sports, Golf, Rugby, Karate and Squash.

The IOC is in review of the current 28 Olympic sports federations. IOC President, Jacques Rogge, said that the five sports being considered would only be added if one of the current 28 Olympic sports is dropped.

A 33-point questionnaire was sent to all 28 Olympic sports federations earlier in the week. The questionnaire also went to roller sports, golf, karate, rugby, and squash.

Roller Sports includes a total of five disciplines: artistic, downhill, hockey, inline hockey and speed skating. Golf and rugby have been top contenders for Olympic inclusion for a number of years. Karate would be another martial art in the Olympic games, which already has judo and taekwondo. Squash would join tennis, table tennis and badminton as a racquet sport.

Interesting...64% of the poll has chosen roller sports to be at the Olympics in this poll with the next closest being golf at 18%...must be a lot of roller people using the net.....I wonder what percentage of those are hockey oriented voters? I know I cast my 10 votes....

When I first hooked up to the Fox site on Friday last at about 17.00 (GMT) [is that 10.00 your east coast time?] the split was a mere 41% Roller Sports, 36% Golf and 23% the rest, a bit too close for comfort.

Obviously the roller community has motivated their collective act, and scored well in the early days. I can't believe that once the Golf community wakes up and gets their act together they aren't going to give roller sports some competition!

I wonder how long the Poll will remain 'open'?

The roller community will have to be aware of any significant closing of the gap.
