Nike Team Breakaway will be holding their tryouts at the Coliseum in Voorhees, New Jersey the second week of September.
We have been around for quite a few years now and have established our selves as a very competitive organization. We look to play in most tournament series. All teams will be participating in atleast one nationals in 2005 as well as the option to participate in Winter Nationals. With TORHS in PA in January and NARCh in Reno, Nevada selected teams will have an opportunity to participate in the winter games. We play all year long and have made arrangements with players who play ice to participate in our events. We try to match the ice schedules so that any player who decides to play for NTB will be able to participate in both the ice and the roller. Ice usually ends in February / March and that is usually when we pick up our game schedule and begin to get ready for Summer Nationals.
Big List of Nationals for this year;
NARCh - TORHS - 2Hot4ICE - USA Inline - AAU - NHL Breakout to name a few.
Our 6U team competed in the TORHS 2004 Nationals although they didn't place they took a huge step for young players just starting off.
Our 8U have won the Winter Games 2004, TORHS Nationals 2004 Division 1 and a few were involved in the NARCh Platinum 8U division Silver medalists (2nd. Place).
Our 10U team has won AAU Nationals, NHL Breakout 2 out of 3 years and placed second in the one year they didn't win and also placed 4th at TORHS Nationals Division 1. A selected few also were involved in the NARCh Platinum 10 Division Championship Team 2004. They have played up in the 12U division for competition locally.
Our 12U team placed 4th at TORHS Nationals 2004 in Division 1 and Locally have been a force.
The 1990's won the TORHS 2004 Winter Games & played TORHS division 2 and NARCH Gold Division and are a one of the top teams in the area.
Our 1989's Won the TORHS 2004 Winter games, Came in second at 2Hot4Ice Nationals, Placed 4th at TORHS Nationals division 1, Placed 9th at NARCh Platinum division and won the 2004 USA Inline Nationals 14U Open division. They also have been playing 16 & 17U divisions locally for competition.

I'm receiving many emails from people confirming that they are coming to the tryouts. If you haven't already done so please drop me an email and let me know if you are going to be attending. I am already looking at a possible 2nd. date because i don't want to just cut people on the first look. We might narrow a few but invite the others to a second skate and or even put them into a scrimmage situation. Thanks

I'll be looking to try out for the 94's ... maybe the 92's if I'm lucky. Some of them kids have some nasty moves I can't compete with......

In all seriousness though, good luck!

Hey SpeedDemon,
Had a very nice showing tonight. 10's and 12's are going to look good. The 14's and 16's have respondid all week and seems like there is going to be a good crowd there as well.

Just an update on the tryouts for the 14U and 16U teams. The tryouts went very well. We had approx 28-30 kids show up and 3 goalies. All have been notified about making the teams.
On a different note USA Hockey Magazine has a very nice article in this months magazine on Nike Team Breakaway 89's from the Nationals in Georgia. If you get a chance to read it it's a very nice article.

I've been following the local teams and saw a post on the Marple Gladiators. Looked over their website and they have a HUGE section basically show-casing Andrew Romano and Nick Master. With CJ Yoder coaching the 10U division team does that mean that Andrew and Nicky are going to be playing with the Gladiators? Didn't they leave the Gladiators because the team that they were playing with wasn't good enough to compete 2 years ago. They played with NTB at TORHS 2003 Nationals and They played 8U with NTB again this past year. Does that mean that the 10U NTB team isn't strong enough for the two of them to stay with NTB. I see lots of this happening in the area with people just wanting to win. Nick and Andrew were the back bone of that NTB 95's team. What will happen to that team? Seems like Marple is trying to take credit for what those kids have done this year. Nike Team Breakaway was the reason that those two kids stood out. Nike Team Breakaway always seems to compete in the highest divisions in the Nationals for local teams why would these two kids want to leave them to compete with a team that competes in Gold in every Nationals? Seems like a step back to me. COach Pedro show cased his teams and many of his boys are well respected because of their play. This has to be a hugh slap in the face to him to loose his 2 top players in the 8U to a team that is happy with winning the Gold Division. The Marple site is really nice but look at the 2004 season and not much info there. They basically had 10U, 12U and 16U and Gold division teams. Nike Team Breakaway competed in all age divisions from 6U thru the 14U at the TORHS Nationals and 8U, 10U as a combo team with Tour Smoke in the Platinum Division. NTB's 12U team and 14U teams played platinum as well. The 14U team went as far as the Quarter Rounds in the Platinum division. NTB also had a group of local boys play NARCh Gold in 14U. These kids were good players locally that were just a level below the other 14U NTB Team. I'm sure we will see them competing in the Platinum Division this year. Now saying this much. With a coach like Pedro who pushes his kids to play the highest division they can. Why would these players leave to play with a team that basically promotes playing Gold every year?

Hi again, EMANON,

You obviously care a great deal about Pedro and the wonderful accomplishments of NTB. That's so commendable. Pedro has always been so nice to my son, as he is to all of the kids . . . I can imagine all of his parents and athletes must really adore him.

The Masters and Romanos are thoughtful people who care deeply about their children. Over the past year, I have heard them say nothing but good things about Pedro and NTB. I am sure they have good reasons for making the decisions they have. I would like to gently point out, however, that their reasons are their private business.

The Jr. Gladiators team the Romanos/Masters left a year or so ago is not the team they played with last year, nor is it the one they are playing with this year.

I do think it is poorly done of you to diminish the wonderful efforts and accompishments of the kids, coaches, and parents of the Jr. Gladiators club. Organizations, like kids, progress at different paces and have different goals, and the Jr. Gladiators have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Many of the kids who play for the Jr. Gladiators can and do choose to play for other teams to get additional play time. I believe you have pointed out in this and other threads that our kids do so quite successfully. In addition, the 10s and 12s in particular have an incredible allegiance to Mike Casey (much like you have toward Pedro). Mike is a great coach and person.

If you would like to talk to me about any of this in person, please look me up at one of the tournaments. Pedro can introduce you to me. Or speak with the Masters and Romanos directly. I suspect they can answer for their actions more clearly than the people on this board - if they choose to do so.

Pedro has advised me that I should just let this all go. He's a pretty smart guy. I think I'll take his advice.

Best regards,

Cheri Zubak

Hello Mrs. Zubak,
As I explained to you on the phone sometimes it's better to not say anything at all and ignore some of these posts.
I'm thankful that Emanon feels this way about me and our organization. I guess I have made an impression on a few and they are greatfull as am I for the nice words them have to say about me.
About Andrew & Nicky. They are both really good kids that I enjoyed having on the team. We played many tournaments last year and traveled from one side of Canada down to challenge them. Both boys will be a factor where ever they play. With Marple being 5 minutes from their house and the Coliseum being about 45 minutes away it's hard not to choose to stay at Marple. Besides CJ has the cridentials as a top notch Roller player and not too often that you have a pro player coach you. Practices will be easier for them to attend and they also play inhouse at Marple. So I can see the plus in staying their.
Good Luck with the rest of your tryouts.
