I've read a lot of the posts on here and still working my way through. I'm interested in knowing more about what everyone's thoughts are on a "PERFECT LEAGUE". And be realistic. Playing in NHL arenas is not gonna happen right away. Look at RHI, it's just not going to work right off.
But what are you looking for as a player, as a fan, as an owner, as a "front office" person, as a friend of a friend of a friend who's heard of roller hockey. I've been around sports a while and from what I've seen of MLRH over the last couple of years, it was going in the right direction.
Personally, I'd like to see the game played in smaller pro venues but not rinky dink arenas like Planet Splash and Play in Chantilly, Va (Storm guys, remember those games!).
I'd like to see a more stat-friendly system where the stats are done by people who care and the teams don't fill them out after the games.
I'd like to see more of a media presence among the teams and not so much of the amateurish websites that pop up here and there and don't get updated. I know what it's like to update websites with other jobs, but at least have one person update the score and another do a little bit of a write-up, that's just me.
I'd like to see any sort of media blitz possible. Getting game time on Cable Access stations (TV or radio), using the local public access to have games posted, etc. I know some teams do this, Marple has for the last two years in the finals at least.
From the few MLRH events I've been to, and to be truthful, only three I wasn't announcing, they've been pretty well organized by way of the teams setting it up and getting fans there.
This e-mail is not meant to bash anyone. I haven't been to many other buildings so I don't know how the game production is (kudos to Marple for Gladiator-Vision), but I had some trouble locating team info this season on an individual basis.
I'm curious to know as I'm connected with both leagues in a way right now, maybe something can be done and the powers on both sides can come together on a true league for everyone.
Jarrod.
