Please tell me what your fairytale future is for both PIHA and MLRH. Do you see one league in the end (even by a different name) and do you ever see it being like the RHI?

Would you like to see only 1 league? Do you think PIHA and MLRH will ever plan this or do you see one growing over the other.

Do you see other leagues involved?

Thanks!

Rebecca

My fairytale ending would be both leagues merging eventually to form a league similar to RHI. Hopefully the league will run so succesfully it will have no problems(cough cough). Both of these leagues need each other to grow rapidly because some players will play the contact while others won't. We would need one set of rules but full out contact may not be the best answer. A one step hit league which is what PIHA basically turned into this year might be the best answer from my point of view.

Actually if you apply the three step rule correctly, and make sure that the only contact allowed is 180 degrees from the forward center of the chest, then the hitting part will be fine. That includes not hitting players who "turn away" ..you make it encumbant on the hitter to be enough in control, so that he does not complete a hit on someone who turns his back...this must be a hard and fast rule. If that elicits cries about the "feline nature" of the game, so be it...however, it will protect the players from those who are there simply to maim and create havoc...consistant with the ethos of the non contact game. Adding more severe minor penalties for any hits thrown above the shoulders would also be helpfull.

Combining a stringent enforcement of these rules, will make throwing a dangerous hit much less common, and will also require that players be trained on how to hit and time their hits properly. This is consistent with the theory, that playing the body is intended to separate the player from the puck, not the head from the body, or other appendages......

By correctly enforcing the existing rules, the excitement of full contact can be maintained, and the skill of the players who participate will be enhnaced.

I think with a diligent enforcement of the contact rules as described in here, the leagues could readily be merged to form a true "full contact" "Pro" league, as well as a very good minor division..where players are properly instructed on hitting.

This brings me back to having a "pro card" which is earned by attending a "pro camp" run by the league, where players must pass certain skills tests to recieve this card, and before they would be allowed to play at the "pro" level.

If there is a "Merger" between the two leagues, you will still have two league's. 1) MLRH (checking) 2) PIHA or what ever name or entity the league mold's itself as (non-checking). That's the way I understand it. I could be wrong. I'm really not apart of the discussions between the two league's. This could be all talk. Who knows what will happen? I guess we will know soon enough. I would like to see a both league's flourish. There's plenty of players in this area to accomidate both. Just my opinion. I hope this works out for everyone.

The question was what we would see as a "fairytale ending"..not a compromise mired to reality....:)

I know, But when do you ever see "the Fairy Tale" ending. Not in this country! Just kidding. I completely agree with your post Mr.Egan. But right now, we are so far from that perfect world.

in a fledgling sport such as roller hockey i think there is no real fairy tale ending. the powers that be just need to try different things to try and get the right fit. maybe the merger is the answer maybe it isn't. the only way to know is to give it a shot.

Well I did ask a few different questions. But I am indeed interested in your fairytale endings!

But as the most contentious issues to merging have been "full contact", and "fighting", wouldn't a managable compromise to these issues be relevant, and even "practical"?

Here's your Fairy Tale ending. The league's merge, everything works to perfection and I win the lottery!

What about the offsides line in MLRH? PIHA doesn't use one if I'm correct. This line, I think, controls the game. How would you work this into the mix?

Let me reiterate, two leagues, 1 name. Two sets of rules because it still two different leagues. One name, for good marketing and business stratagies.
