Rink Rat /Hyper Wheels

Just curious, has anyone had a negative or just weird experience using the RR wheels? I am at a cross road with wheels right now and I wanted to see if there were any players that had a negative experience with the RR wheels.

I have been playing on Hyper Unities, but they only last about 4-6 games as far as grip is concerned. The wheel holds up, but the grip goes away real fast! So I end up sliding everywhere!

I am 6'1" 205 lbs. I know from experience that a 72a or 73a is too soft for my weight, but lately the 76a is starting to feel too hard!

So which is better RR Hotshots or Hyper Trinities?

I am talking about indoor on Sport Court.

We have had the same discussions with our organization. Our boys originally were using the Hyper wheels. We were switching wheels very often. We had quite a few of our kids try thr Rink Rat Wheels and they are swearing by them. We play tournaments every weekend and the wheels are still good and no complaints with them being slick and not being able to stop. They boys have worn them in about 8-9 tournaments so far and that usually consists of at least 4-5 games per tournament. That is not including practices during the week and also some that play inhouse hockey. The Hornet wheels are AWESOME and the HOT SHOT's are very good also. You should try them! I'm sure you'll be pleased.

I have tried just about every wheel on the market. I am not tall and not heavy (5'10" 150 lbs), and it doesn't matter if I use a really soft wheel, or a bit harder, I wear them on because I am hard on wheels and dig pretty deep to stop. I tried my first set of Rink Rats last summer at NARCh and I haven't used any wheels since. Rink Rat has hit it head on and has an unbelievable product line. I currently am using the Hornets, but the Hot Shots in my opinion are just as good. These wheels are definitely worth spending a couple more bucks on, but compared to the Trinities, I think they are even Cheaper, and are 10 times the wheel. Good luck! Also, if you go on eBay, search for Rink Rat, there is an auction for a set of Hot Shot's for 48 bucks for the set. That is almost 10 dollars off.

Thanks! I ordered a pair of Hotshots today and I will post what I find out on their performance for my size and style of hockey!

In case you aren't convinced....my son had used Trinities as his favorite wheel for a year before trying the Rink Rats last year....no contest period for grip or durability. His current set of Hornets has been used for 4 months in MLRH and PIHA competition, as well as practices, two tournaments, and open hockey twice a week.

I've been very pleased with the Hornets I got through epuck. Been on them for a season plus pickup games once or twice a week and still show very little wear.

Although I'd suggest not ordering it directly from them and instead go through a reseller. I've had a ridiculous experience so far trying to get a set of the outdoor wheels that I ordered direct.

There is a set of Hornets on eBay for 60 brand new and the hot shots for 48 brand new. Much less than retail.

I played pick up for 3 hours on Thursday with my new Hot Shots and I am sold!! Rink Rat wheels are Great! Better control, rebound, excelleration and stopping!! Money well spent and not a mark on them!

I will be trying the Hornets on my next wheel purchase, but Rink Rats are well worth the money to me!

hi, how are you all doing. are the hot shots going to give me a noticable difference over my labeda gripper lites? Would like some input, because if you guys think theyll give me extra acceleration i would spend the 65 bux in a heartbeat.
please reply purduepimp:), im 5"11, 160, and not a fast or good skater at this point... so im looking for a bit of help by wheels.

The answer is categorically yes..the Rink Rats will increase your grip if you are skating on Sport Court or similar.

Yeah, but it all depends on how much grip you want. I just got a set of Hot Shots and skated 3 hours of Pick Up and then one League game. I found the forward excelleration to be good, but the stopping, transitions and backwards skating for me, was horrible! Everyone is different, so just take this with a grain of salt! ;-) I am a very aggressive defensemen and after Pick up and one game, they did not have a scratch on them! I am 6'1" 205 lbs. Very tough wheel, but I did not like the way they skated for me. I have gone back to my Hyper Unities for now. I think the plastic cores were too different from what I have been skating on and add that to the weird feel and it was just not working for me! The only gripe I have with Unities, is that after about 5 or 6 games, they lose their grip big time! I skate on a 76A, I am thinking about trying a 74A, but that may be too soft for my weight and style of play!
I blamed a very sticky wheel on an ankle injury I had 2 seasons ago, they were just too sticky and I could not pull my skate up in time to recover. It can be a fine line when you are over 200lbs. between not enough grip and too much grip! Back to the drawing board for me! :-(

are the rink rats worth while on polished wood surfaces? if not, what is. thanks guys.

Polished hard wood floors will tear up even the best wheels. The wood floors are good for Figure skating and stuff like that but is not that good for hockey and also very expensive if ever for what ever reason a chip came out of the floor. Your wheels heat up so quick and causes even the best wheel to get ruined quick.

Get some of the old Gripper Snappers..Medium or Hard they will tough out and still give you some grip. I think Hockey Giant still has some.

thanks, i didnt find them from hockey giant, will look elsewhere, what other wheels do you recommend ( i guess the best for polished wood is 76 or 78a in hardness?)

We have been playing on wood for six years. The wheels that work the best and last the longest are "speed" wheels or outdoor wheels. 80mm Hypers that are 82a or 84a hardness for the back. These are usually light and grip the wood fine, without tearing apart. They will easily last an entire season. For the 72mm wheels, try to find an 82a or 84a wheel. They don't make speed wheels this small, so you probably are looking at an outdoor wheel. This type of setup works. The softer wheels for sport court tend to make you feel like you are skating on flat tires.

Actually we just use our old wheels from sport court..we have an unlimited supply of wheels whose grip is gone for sport court, but which are fine for in house play on wood where "ultimate performance" is not an issue. They do not last too long but are already throw-aways. And the next poster is correct..too soft a wheel on wood feels spongy, and medium to hard durometer is 78 - 82. Not all floors are equal of course..so even some 76A wheels might work.

I am considering the hyper pro 150s, the rink rat world cup outdoors, red star tritons. the tritons and 150s will only cost me 32 $ for 8, the rink rat world cups would run 48$, i dont mind the money difference, just want to know what would be best. thank you guys so much for the info!

someone who skated on polished wood recommended that i use my labeda gripper lites and see how it goes for a game or two. Also I was told it may be a good idea to leave my 74a's on the back 2 and throw 76 or 78 a on the front two wheels... They advised me the 82a would be quite hard to turn well. I have asked around and the rink rat outdoor world cup wheels are supposedly great (if u need an 82 durometer)thanks guys.

I am so far unimpressed with the outdoors durability. One game and it's already started to chunk along the outer edge on a painted polished concrete surface.

As I posted on another thread the Rink Rat Outdoor World Cup wheels are by far the best wheels and best value on the market, regardless of the cost.

My son won't skate on wood or outdoor with anything else.

The wheels I was talking about are the rink rat world cup wheels. I haven't skated on them long enough to comment on the grip but I'm very concerned about the durability.
