View Full Version : Your Dream Rink

Some northern NJ teams are concerned they will soon have no where to play. I mean, as of right now... they don't even have anywhere decent to play. So instead of settling for yet another "okay" rink that will most likely be shut down in a few years... they've decided to build their own. So we are asking ALL NORTHERN NEW JERSEY residents for their input. Where would you like to see an indoor rink? And we're talking dual regulation size sport courts. What would you want in this rink? How would you design it? Essentially if this were your rink... how would it be? We want your input, because this rink will be for you... and every other inline hockey player in northern NJ.

WOW! Won't you bring that attitude to NW Florida? Are you married? Just kidding! We need folks like you down here!

If I was building a rink, it's gotta be a Olympic size sheet. Also 6 locker rooms per rink. 2 for the game that ended, 2 for the game going on and 2 for the game that's next. Showers in the lockerrooms and the floors should be cleaned daily with a machine if not more often on tourney days and stuff like that. Also, make the sinks have faucets that are high enough off the sink to fill water bottles.

It's great you reconize the need for a new rink. The first and formost need is money. Starting a project underfunded is a killer. Next find a general that is familiar with rink construction. Develope a wish list of items you would like to have. Things to consider is number of rinks, board system and floor, showers and lockerooms, pro shop, snack bar. You should consider a multi use rink to minimize down time. Having been involved in the construction of many facilities feel free to drop me a line at [email protected]

Goalie warm-up area? Don't we warm-up during pregame? How much warm-up do you need?

Depends on how much time you get. Some rinks give you 2 min, but by the time your guys line up and are done screwing around then you may get only a few shots to warm up.

I need my cage rattled.

Goalies my age, late 20's, look for ways to avoid too much warm-up. 2 minutes is more than enough for me. I'll be too tired for the game. Hey, question, what's with using fuhr31? The guys a Hall of Famer for crying out loud.

Some connections with him and I can say that he has been great, not only between the pipes, but other things as well.

Great guy he is.

Hey Danielle, we've been looking to setup a rink in north New Jersey (Bergen County area). Finding the right building or vacant land is difficult.

I'm waiting to hit that big lottery to build a quad rink inside of an ice complex. I would have 7 surfaces. 3 ice and 4 roller. The area around the rink will have seating so that each area can hold at least 2000 people and I would have one Olympic size ice surface with seating capacity of 5000. I would have area's around the rinks that stores could rent out with like fast food places, shopping and even a wine and dine place for those long days at the rink. Make it a place that the mom's would enjoy coming to as well as the dad's. Who know maybe before I turn 90 I can do this. Each rink would have 7 locker rooms and central air and heating. The 7 locker rooms would be 2 for players playing games, 2 for players waiting to go on the floor and 2 for the next team coming in so that the teams just getting off can take showers and take care of business. Also so that the rink staff can make sure the teams coming in the arena for a game have a clean locker room. The shower rooms would have an area where the players could dry off without getting the changing area for the players soaked and also good exhaust fans that lead out of the rooms so that it keeps the stench down and doesn't smell up the rink. An added idea would be to have a few Hotels built around the arena so that people wouldn't have to go far when tournaments are being held. The biggest thing would be to have it all paid for so that the cost could be kept down and people would make it a point to come to from everywhere.
Again this is my dream arena.

I only see one problem with your plan(other than the lotto thing). Don't need those exhaust fans. A hockey rink should smell like a hockey rink, not a Bath and Body Works.

Ron you might be right about that but with trying to attract both parents of kids and with having all sorts of stores for something to do will have to try to make it not smell so that it appeals to those who don't care for the sport. Besides if your anything like I was My bag would get opened only at game time.(lol) Besides the exhaust fans would help with moisture and we all know that that is a huge problem when dealing with roller rinks in a facility that also has ice. I'm not a wizz at this but do know from prior experiences that moisture is a huge problem.
