In the topic of injuries:

Condolences to Richard Graham and a speedy recovery!

Rich broke his ankle Sunday night from a slapshot while playing in his ice hockey league. He did not know it was broken at the time, so with a little bit of ice on it and a lot of that male testosterone that tells you guys to keep playing in spite of an injury (or marraige or pregnancy), Graham scored on a breakaway that put his team up 5-2.

Unfortunately Rich succumbed to the injury, sat out, and the opposition scored 4 straight in a row winning the game 6-5. To add insult to the injury, the guy who shot the puck was a higher-division player and shouldn't have even been in the game!

Rich is the league's fourth-leading scorer with 20 goals and 8 assists in the 17 games he played in and will now be out for the play-off games. His team's record at Skatezone in Huntington Beach is 15-3-1, with 114 goals for and 56 against.

Graham is a great asset to his team and a broken ankle is no fun for a hockey player.

TAKE CARE OF THAT ANKLE GRAHAM!!

(If Rich does not respond here, I will keep you posted on his recovery)

Sorry to hear about injuries always, but I am amazed at the length of a season. Longest season I have ever played was 12 regular season games.

Get better Rich. Hope you have a faster recovery then I did when i broke my wrist. It is hard to watch your team play while you are injured. Just get lots of rest and stay off that ankle.

Wishing you a quick recovery Rich. Although we all know that quick is about 6-8 weeks with a cast then probable therapy. But hey maybe the brake isn't all that bad or you heal quicker. (just hoping) Good well soon!

Hope you recover soon. Do what the Dr says and you'll be back in no time and leading your team in goals!

Hi Rebecca, and everyone else who responded,

Thanks a lot for the kind words. I appreciate them. I'm ticked off that I'll miss the playoffs, but feel fortunate that it was my left ankle, rather than my right, so I can still drive my Jeep Cherokee and get around. I'm glad January is over; was laid off from my "real" job January 5; broke the ankle January 25, and had my car broken into and my car stereo and radar detector (leadfoot) stolen on the morning of January 31. When it rains, it pours! /wtimages/icons/mad.gif/wtimages/icons/wink.gif

Well, bad things apparently come in threes so you've got them all out the way.

Get well soon.

Hi Rebecca,

The ankle's doing well. It doesn't hurt that much anymore, and I figure another three weeks in a walking boot and I'll be ready to start getting back into skating shape.

By the way, my team, sponsored by the Zodiac Cocktail Lounge in Long Beach, won the championship! They won the first-round game 7-4, and after getting behind 3-0 in the championship final, roared back to tie it and eventually win, 5-4. Very cool.

Thanks for asking!

Sincerely,
