AJ just posted this on our message board so I thought I would share it. I for one, had never actually seen this footage and thought some of you might enjoy

Mike Legg spawned an entire legion of wannabe superstars with that move..... lol

still rather sick though.

It definately has created a bunch of wannabe superstars. I have tried it during a pickup and before games it is hard to do. I just try to see if i can do it. I don't think i could do it during a game.

I wouldn't recommend trying it. The other team may try to decapitate you!

Here's a video of a pretty awesome variation. It basically uses the same idea with some added flare. I've heard it called the Michigan 360 (between the legs), but we simply call it the spin move. Enjoy!

I only try during warmups, practices, and pickup. I haven't been able to pull that move then.

Most, if not all, roller hockey players can't pull off a true "Michigan", as depicted in the video. Most scoop the puck onto their stick blade, ala pizza style, while skating behind the goalie and stick it in on their backhand side. It's house league stuff that the fans get a kick out of, but only in a close game. Not a very nice thing to do when you're about to mercy a team.

Speaking as a father who watched his son learn the Michigan over the years... he started out learning it as it is depicted in the video, using stick pressure to flip the puck, and then scooping it in one motion. Only after did his touch get good enough to "scoop" it "pizza" style which is faster and takes less room, but was actually more difficult to master than the original way shown in the video. It is actually an evolution of the original move and takes more feel to do it that way(pizza style), because you can actually go into the move from a standard stick handling position at fairly high speed......leading to 360's and other variants.

Now it seems like it has become part of a standard repertoire for most dedicated 10 year olds and above...

When I did it the only way I could come close to manage it was as shown, I couldn't "scoop" it as you are talking about. (hands of stone)

I remember seeing a IHL guy pull it off a year or so later after Legg did it. I remember watching sportscenter the night he did it and I was in awe. Not to mention, it was a game winning goal.

Not sure who it is, but if I EVER find myself skating that slow, it's time to retire. Nice move nonethe less but try that in flight.

I actually remember seeing Jim Redstreake pull it off in the breakaway competition of the minor league all star game. He did it just inside the blue line while skating and basically sent the puck right in off the crossbar. Would love to see that again. Anyway to put it simple....it is a very flashy move that takes time and patience to perfect and it is good to get the crowd going.
