Is this the same Breakaway Team that is run by Pedro? They were the 2003 Mite National Champions and also the 2003 MLRH Youth National Champions in the 12U and 14U divisions. Should be interesting to see who they have in their line up. This group always seems to show up with great talent no matter what division they compete in.

I guess there will be some real good talent at these tryouts. What are the requirements and do you intend to have a stud team like your younger teams. I've seen the younger teams in Virginia and will say that if the older team is anything like the younger one's your gonna have a true dominance from young to old. I'm gonna see if I can make the commute work because I'd like to be a part of a class act bunch of Hockey Players. Good Luck!

Hi Pedro,

Just wondering if this team is going to be geared towards playing in NARCh and TORHS pro divisions..... thanks!

What's up Naz,
I guess we have to see what we wind up with at tryout's. Have to remember that players that already committed to some teams for Nationals that want to play will only be available for tournaments and nationals that don't conflict with their commitments. Of course we would like to compete at the best level that we can but also want to be realistic when we get our draw of players. Last year our younger guys went from TORHS to NARCh. I feel that we played them appropriately in the right divisions. Can't predict without seeing who comes out.

SpeedDemon,
Looking at the teams that Breakaway had in VA. last year and their 11 teams at TORHS Nationals this summer the team that they are gonna put together will probably play pro division. They always have excellent players and the coach is always on the go with the teams. He's the kind of coach that I'd like to have because you know where your headed. Not looking for browney points just telling the truth!

Ok thanks. I know that it is always crazy to count your chickens before they've hatched. I just wanted to know if by "pro" you meant you were building a team for PIHA, MLRH competition, or if it was for TORHS, NARCh, USA pro competition.

Thanks!

We don't wanna rule out anything. NARCH, TORHS, and so on. We are gearing up to compete at that level. Like Pedro said, we'll see what the tryout brings. With the expansion of Breakaway, we do know we have a ton of interest. PIHA will be addressed in January

Sounds like this team is gonna be sick! I see lots of interest from all over and knowing Pedro's reputation he will draw the best from everywhere. Rumor has it that top West Coasters "midget" age are interested to compete because of the possibility of playing NARCh & TORHS. How will that work? I know that Pedro's younger teams have a variety of players from East Coast too West Coast & he makes it work. Will it be the same for the midget's? I plan on doing some traveling but want to know if I'm seriously gonna be considered because of the distance? Will you also work out problems with Team USA if it arises and the OHL ice schedules? Please respond! Who is BreakawayProGM? Is this being put together by Pedro or someone else?

HockeyFanAtic,
Pedro will address your questions shortly. As for my role, I will be one of the several people involved in expanding Team Breakaway's adult Pro Team. Our goal along with pedro is to be a complete organization from head to toe(Masters, Pro or Gold all the way down to 8u), and we hope to compete for a national title(s) in all age brackets as Pedro has with his youth teams currently.
The response were getting right now is incredible and that's due to Pedro's reputation and commitment to his players.

To answer a few questions Yes I am highly involved in what is going on with the PRO / Gold team. I am pretty tied up right now with keeping the younger teams going threw ice season. I am gearing the teams for NARCh / TORHS from the youngest to oldest. The Winter Games here in Philadelphia at Feasterville are a priority right now. Getting the younger teams ready for that. The tryouts in early December are also so that we might be able to start off the New Year with a Pro / Gold Team that we can at that point decide where to place them compitition wise. Knowing the top teams in the PRO's "Mudcats - Rink Rats" will be nice to be able to gather the talent to compete against them. I'm keeping it real and am saying that we will be very competitive.
The subject of West Coast and East Coast is simple. Hockey players are hockey players. I am not and will not be prejudice to who you are or where you come from. My purpose is to build a team or teams that are a force to be reckoned with. I do have requirements for players from out of our area that participate in Nationals with our groups. That will be addressed with you and the team once we have the players set. I have had players from all over play with our younger teams. It has worked. Players from the Team USA, OHL & anyone else who is interested in participating I will say that I will work with whatever I have control over. The TORHS schedule is posted. Waiting for the NARCh schedule. Intentions are to qualify for both on the East Coast. We will work out the specifics with the Nationals once we can name our team.
BreakawayProGM is Jason a friend who is highly involved in what we are trying to accomplish organization wise. He is responding to the emails that I am receiving from players that are interested in playing PRO's / Gold. Were keeping a tab on the interested parties that are contacting us and he is better equipped to do that paperwork. I know quite a few of you guys and although I might not personally respond to your questions please know that Jason and I are constantly communicating with eachother and before responding we confer with eachother. I just don't want someone to feel slighted if I personally don't respond. I will get the time to talk to everyone at the tryouts and feel that I can answer things personally when I see ya! Thanks for the responses and hope to see you in a few weeks.

I see names of players from the Riot and the Growl asking about TORHS & NARCh but how many are interested in playing in League games with Breakaway? Seems like these guys are just interested in tournament play. Is this what Breakaway is trying to put together? I thought you were looking to put a team together to compete in one of the Roller series as well? Will there be more then one team formed?

I know that I'm looking forward to playing some NARCh and TORHS with guys that can hang. I'd like to play against the Mudcats or Rink Rats with a team that has a shot of competing. Both of these 2 teams are stacked with players but with the right mix of guys they can be beat. I'm looking for that mix of guys to go up against those teams. If they beat us fair and square then so be it but atleast we had a shot talent wise to go up against them. I expect that Breakaway will draw that type of players. I know that friends of mine are all buzzing about the tryouts I just hope it's worth the trip down there. But knowing Pedro it will be worth the day in the car to get there.

I appreciate your loyalties Naz. We look forward to competing with Team Breakaway in PIHA this season and will encourage all of our players to compete with them on their tournament team. It is no secret that the pro level is a higher caliber at tournaments like TORHS and NARCH, with the ability to get players from a larger geographic area. I look forward to seeing the progress of these new teams.

Thanks for your post Anthony. I can say from my point now that because I am getting quite a few request from players who are playing MLRH that we have joined the PIHA league. We will be looking to fill a PIHA roster as well as looking for those skilled players to play the high caliber tournaments as in TORHS and or NARCh. The idea here is that we are expanding our club so that we compete from age 8U up threw Pro's / Gold. At the tryouts we will be observing players for the High calibre tournamants and also looking for those players that are committed to playing in the PIHA league with us. As those of you who know me I am looking for the players who are commited to play at the high calibre. My younger teams are very good only because of their commitment level. My wanting to expand is so that we can go all out as an organization when we go to our nationals this upcoming year. Last year we furnished teams in every age division at TORHS and even had 2-3 teams in some age divisions. We'd like to take that expansion up to pro's / gold as well. I'm getting a nice response from all over for the travel pro / gold team and also for the PIHA team. I'd like to place new banners at the Coliseum with our Nike Team Breakaway all over it with Championships. We are going on our 2nd. year as an organization and it keeps getting better. Nike is only sponsoring 3 teams. The OC Blades from Cali., the Buffalo Wings from Buffalo New York and now Nike Team Breakaway. I worked hard to make this happen for our groups and our club proved that they are up for the challenge and honored to be wearing and doning the Nike name!

I was gathering info on Breakaway and seems that the tryouts will be packed with "MAD SKILLS". Even having people come in from out of town just for the tryouts. This is what I call a true tryout. Hopefully I make the grade to be on the National team because it looks like they are prepping like the Rink Rats did this past year. About PIHA this too seems to be something that looks positive because looking at and talking to people many are gonna camp out for the tryouts. I know personaly of at least 2 dozen people that are going to be there! Good luck!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the tryouts and hoping to make this year a memorable year for lots of people. Because of the abundance of inquires about the tryouts and the numbers of players that we anticipate we will be opening the doors for the tryouts on Sunday December 7th, 2003 at 8am. so that you have time to fill out appropriate paperwork and also be able to dress and warm up. We will also open at 6pm on Monday December 8th, 2003 so that those people can do the appropriate papaerwork as well. Remember that if you are 16U and over and interested in the PRO / Gold Nike Team Breakaway Team that you need to show for the tryouts. The fee is $45.00 for the tryouts. We have an elite 16U team as well as fielding a 18U team and the Minors for the Pro's. We will be doing the evaluations both nights. Thanks.

Now I seem to get it. It is really just fielding a team for PIHA and taking the pro players from that team to form competition against the Mudcats and RinkRat. I am glad that this confusion has been cleared up for my end and everyone else's who are loyal to the Growl. Good Tourney this past weekend boys, even though JT's team got smoked and my team with DL got destroyed as well. Is it PIHA season yet?

TeamBreakaway
12-01-2003, 09:52 AM
Db55UD02- The PIHA team will be formed at the tryouts but so will the tournament team. The PIHA might not necessarily be the same guys on the Travel Tournament team. Remember that the PIHA Team has to field players that compete just about every week on the East Side. The Tournament team is gearing to play either NARCh or TORHS or both. Some players from the West side and from all over are gonna be trying out for that team. Just because you make one doesn't meen you have made the other! Some of the players that will be playing PIHA are committed to play with other pro teams already for NARCh and TORHS!

PS. A little note about the weekend. You try to throw something together to show support for a fellow team. Sometimes what you throw together is not strong or not the right mix in chemistry but the object was not to stack a team it was to have fun and support a cause. If you had a beer with the guys after all was said and done you accomplished what was set out. Beleave me carefull consideration will be given as to what players will be in the PRO / Gold line up.

Just another update. We are having our tryouts on Sunday and Monday. We are expecting some snow but all will be over Saturday. The tryouts are Sunday and Monday. There is no make up dates. A little snow shouldn't hinder your appearance. We plan on a very competitive tryout with many skilled players showing up. For those of you traveling in from outside our area please drive safely. It will be worth your trip. Winter Nationals is just 5 weeks away and some are looking forward to competing. Our younger groups will be competing up until the age of 18U. Depending on what kind of commitment we get maybe we can register a mens team as well and gauge ourselves from there. Only 48 hrs away and it's unbelievable the calls and emails received so we're really excited about the tryouts. Again doors will open on Sunday at 8am and on Monday at 6pm. This will give you the time to fill out your paperwork and even warm up on the sports court. The restaurant will be open and so will the proshop for those last minute things. Many of those hard to find things will be seen at the Coliseum. Again drive safely and see all of you soon!

(JK) I know it was worth the drive although I did have to put lots of miles on the old clunker and have to manover around so many morans on the turnpike who freeze up with the sight of snow. It wasn't the roads that were frozen up. It was the idiots who just don't know how to drive. I guess I'll just have to let out my frustration on Sunday. See you there but BEWARE! Well the weekend is over and I wanted to basically thank everyone who traveled out on Sunday morning and Monday night. Sunday was a good day although I know that the snow and ice kept a few key players away. We had a nice draw and a mixed age group. Some of my regular Bantam players showed up because they wanted to see what we were bringing to our club as well as wanting to see if they could hang with the older boys. Nice talent from Virginia, Wisconsin, PA and all over New Jersey. A few expected from the west coast and from the Georgia area couldn't make it. Based on what I observed at the tryouts I will say that the PIHA team will be very strong. We have a very good base for a Pro / Gold team and also one of the better D1 teams. We are presently reviewing the talent level and making notes on our observation of the players from both days and will be intouch with everyone soon. Again a huge thanks for those of you who ventured out in the nasty weather on Sunday for the tryouts and also the players who came out Monday. I've been involved in some evaluations before but never have I had a rough time evaluating so many players with so much skill. The main idea here now will come to who will be able to commit to the constant travel as well as the participation in practices. Thank you and we'll be intouch! Also a huge thanks to Matt Denton who ran the smoothest drills and made the evaluation of the players much nicer because with his drills we were able to see the player individually as well as with partners. It's always nice to have a person who takes the game so seriously help out. Also thanks to Mr. Kreider new owner of the Coliseum for allowing us the opportunity for our Nike Team Breakaway to skate out of an Arena with so much History. Some of the players who showed up started at the Coliseum as Mites, Squirts and peewee's and now have the opportunity to skate as adults still making the mile stone and trying to make history.

Hey SpeedDemon heard you looked like a natural at the tryout's Monday night. Won't it be a pleasure playing with a skilled group where you can basically have fun and balance from line to line. I'm hoping to make the PIHA team so that I can once again enjoy playing the game the way it's supposed to be played. Part of playing is having fun and it seems like that group will have lot's of fun playing with such high skilled players. So I'm hoping for a call. By what I heard you basically fit in. What did it feel like seriously. I wanted to make the drive up but couldn't. If I had known that JD, Heenan, Matty, Simon and all of those good players were going to be there I would of made it a point to be there. I can just imagine how sick it was flying skating with players that at any given time anyone of them could burry a puck. If I make the team I will be traveling 4-5 hours for practices and games but trust me it will be worth the ride! Making room for the trophy now! I'm looking forward to playing with you and the others.
Your comment:
"do not wish to sound like I'm going behind anyone's back"
Hey no need too. With skill like this team will have you'd be nuts to pass up the opportunity!
