TORHS AMERICA ANNOUNCES NEW PRO FORMAT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday August 27, 2003
ATLANTA, Georgia ? Ready or not the 2004 season is soon to be upon the roller world with TORHS regional action starting up in just about two months at the end of October.
With the new season come some changes and improvements to the format of the past season both for the amateur teams and the PRO Series. Last years PRO Series gained huge recognition with it?s groundbreaking and trend setting year. For 2004, the stakes are raised and the bar of competition have elevated with it.
In addition to the prize money, which will be announced shortly, an additional element has been included within the PRO format this year. In an effort to establish more stability amongst the PRO series, a season format has been developed for 2004. PRO Teams will now have the chance to earn points throughout the course of the year for their wins during a regional competition. One difference from last year is there is no limit to the number of regionals a PRO team can compete in. In efforts to advance that theory and therefore enhance the appetite to compete, a format very similar to what you find in the NHL now exists. Any team earning a win during the regionals will receive 2 points, a tie will give each team a point and a loss, of course, is worth no points. In the event of a bye in the playoffs that team will receive 1 point towards their season total and the team which wins the regional (1st place) will receive an additional point as well. Those points will then accumulate over the course of the season; at the end of the season the team with the most points will be crowned as the TORHS PRO Series Season Champion and thus be awarded $10,000 during the Opening Ceremonies of the Nationals. This new format is in addition to the National Championship and the grand prize money, which will be awarded in the same way as last season with that money going to the winner of the National Championship tournament. In addition the entry fee for the PRO series this year has been lowered to $495.
?We are very excited about the additions to the PRO Series. As before the goal is growth of the sport and in order to do that we have to continue to develop structure, adding this new format to the PRO Series does that. It gives more value to the regionals and gives the teams a chance to compete for even more than they were competing for before. We are also hoping that this raises the competitiveness of the regional as well. Games take on a far greater meaning now,? said TORHS President Tony Abbate.
The first PRO Series of the year will be in Aberdeen, New Jersey, October 24-26, a complete list of regional qualifiers is available on TORHS.com. In addition a complete explanation of the rules and format is available online as well. Make sure to check with TORHS.com for additional regional qualifiers and more news about the 2004 season. Registration is now available online at TORHS.com for the regional events. For more information contact TORHS America at [email protected]
