I have a some questions regarding to laces...
I have a pair of CCM Externo Mavericks and the OEM laces are being a pain, they bind and twist when I tighten them. As a result from this they have lost their consistency. I have some replacement laces from some Mission senior RL's, which are smaller in width than the OEM CCM laces. Does the width of the laces determine any advantages/disadvantages over one another? In other words, which width of lace is better?

When it comes to threading laces for right and left footed boots, which side (left or right hand side) of the lace should go on the underside when beginning lacing a right footed boot. Would the other side apply to the left footed boot? Currently I have my right footed boot laced with the the right hand side of the lace on the bottom, and the left handed side of the lace goes on top, and for the left footed boot, the left hand sided lace is on the underside, and the right hand side is on top.

I always liked the non waxed soft cotton laces as they would self balance better than the waxed laces which would tend to bind and make some parts of the skate tighter than others.

Of course sometimes that is desireable depending on the skate. With well broken in skates I always liked the easy pull of the non waced soft cotton laces and the flexibility they seemed to impart to the skate.

As far a lacing pattern.......unless the manufacturer specifies a particular pattern for that boot, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Personally I never found it made too much difference. Using the softer laces made it much easier to tighten the skate uniformally and not have to pull so hard, which is easier on the eyelets.

There is a great way to lace hockey skates-it's called "lock lacing".
Normally you pass the tip of the lace through the eyelet from underneath (tongue side). With lock lacing you pass the tip through the eyelet from the top side...all the way till the last top lace-which should be laced normally.

I do that, never knew it hard a name though, it does work really good.
