Congratulations! to all of the 8 girls' teams that participated in the USAHIL youth national championships. This was the second year that USA Hockey Inline hosted girls competitive play in two age divisions.
For the record, the Mt. Hood Thunder defeated the Manini Wahini for the Girls' 17's championship. The East Coast Herricane bested the Nations-Tobin Polar Bears for the title in the Girls' 12's division.
This was an extremely competitive tournament, and a strong indicator of the rapid development of the Girls' game in this country. General observation held that any team in either age division could have won the title over last year's level of play.
We certainly hope that the North American Roller Hockey Championships organization will see fit to follow up on it's (probably self-generated) rumors to host girls' divisions at its Winternationals in January. We also hope that NARCh will see fit to host its finals tournament next summer so that it's four girls 17's teams might also participate in this USAHIL event.
For now, it's "on to Las Vegas" for the Polar Bears Girls' 17's, who will be participating in the Women's division of the USA Hockey Inline Cup tourney September 18-21...hope to see everybody out on the blue floor.
