1. New Zealand IHA to adopt IHCTS coaching programs
IHCTS and the New Zealand Inline Hockey Association are pleased to announce a working partnership which will see the IHCTS coaching programs being run in New Zealand. Krystyna Beardman for NZIHA commented The development of the sport must begin through grass roots programs. The IHCTS program includes first principles of coaching for our coaches and the basic player skills which will benefit our members and newcomers to the sport as we strive to extend our membership base. We are delighted to work with IHCTS as their programs fit our requirements for the development of inline hockey in New Zealand. IHCTS are currently looking into the possibility of running the City & Guilds NVQ Sports Coaching qualification for coaches in New Zealand. Full details of the press release can be viewed in the News section at http://www.ihcts.co.uk
2. International Opportunities
City & Guilds NVQ qualifications are not specific to Britain, they are recognised throughout the World and C&G have offices in many countries. Normally people who wish to take C&G qualifications would register with an Approved Centre in their own country. As IHCTS are the only approved centre throughout the World to run the Inline Hockey Sports Coaching NVQ we are currently working with C&G with a view to offering the qualification to people from outside the UK. We have already received enquiries from people in other countries and if you live outside the UK and would like further information, please email [email protected]
3. ESF/NVQ Update
The response to previously published dates of courses between August and March 2004 has been tremendous. Less than 100 places are now available out of the original 250. The course in Northwich on August 20/21/22 is now fully booked and the courses scheduled for Durham, Surrey and the London area have only a handful of places available. Certain areas have had little response and there is a possibility that courses scheduled for the Midlands and the South West may be moved to areas where there is more demand. Further details will be announced in the next 14 days but it is important to register your interest in the courses if you have not already done so either through the web site form which can be found under the ESF section of the web site http://www.ihcts.co.uk or by email [email protected] Course venues and dates can also be viewed in the ESF section. Details of the project for new subscribers and subscribers who live in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland can be found later in this newsletter.
4. Criminal Records Bureau
IHCTS are now a CRB registered body and are able to signed Disclosure applications which are now a requirement for IHCTS licensed coach applicants. Details of how to apply for a Disclosure with the CRB are included in the License Application form which can be downloaded from the downloads section of the web site http://www.ihcts.co.uk Existing license holders will receive details through the post within the next 7 days.
5. Level 1 Coaching Courses
A Level 1 coaching course has recently been held at Virtual Ice in Rotherham. The course was hosted by the Ultra Violets ladies team with funding they received through an Awards For All grant. The course was also attended by coaches from Bircotes Bombers, Norton Cyclones and Chaddy Wildsharks with all 17 participants successfully gaining their Level 1 Badge and Certificate. Further courses are being arranged in all 4 Home Countries during September and October with dates and venues scheduled to be released next week.
6. Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland
We have been asked on a few occasions why people from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are unable to take advantage of the ESF funding that we have received. The answer is quite simple. Each of the 4 Home Countries has its own European Funding office and bids for funding to these offices are only applicable for the home country in which the office is based. The English bid could be considered to be a pilot project and if successful (and the signs so far are that it is exceeding expectations), then bids will be submitted to the offices of the other home countries. Applications for ESF funding though are not as simple as just writing a letter asking for money! It takes a considerable amount of time (months not weeks) to put a bid together and even then, there is no guarantee that the bid will be successful. If you live in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland please register your interest through the IHCTS web site to allow us to gauge the number of people who would like to gain the NVQ Sports coaching qualification.
7. What is the ESF Hockey Project all about?
Apologies to existing subscribers for repeating the following but we receive a significant number of new subscribers between each newsletter and it is necessary to provide them with a summary of the project.
Plan-It Training in partnership with IHCTS have been successful in securing European Social Funding to provide the new NVQ Level 2 Inline Hockey Sports Coaching Qualification and the NVQ Assessors qualifications.
The national bid under the ESF Objective 3 will provide opportunities to train in the above qualifications over the next 2 years for 250 people in the 9 qualifying ESF regions of England.
Plan-It will deliver the NVQ Assessor qualification as a registered Edexcel Centre and IHCTS will deliver the NVQ Sports Coaching qualification as a registered City & Guilds Centre.
The opportunity to gain these nationally recognised qualifications is open to ANYONE. It doesnt matter which club or association a coach belongs to.
Frequently Asked Questions on both the NVQ qualification provided by IHCTS and the ESF Project can be found at the IHCTS web site under the specific ESF section. If you have any questions which are not covered then please send us an email [email protected]
8. Coaching Software
Previous newsletters have referred to bringing you details of an innovative coaching software program in future issues. With fingers crossed, details should be available within the next 7 days.
9. Email/Webmail
It has been brought to our attention that people who are subscribed to this newsletter through a webmail based email service receive the full code in which it is written. Therefore, the mailing list is currently being split into two, one for people who use a conventional email program (Outlook, Eurdora, etc) and one for people who are subscribed through a webmail based service (hotmail, yahoo, etc). This is going to take some time but will hopefully be completed in the very near future. Therefore, this newsletter is being sent out twice to everyone on the list, once in conventional format and the other in webmail format. Please read the one which is most convenient to yourself and discard the other.
