CarToyz take Mid-Atlantic MLRH AA Qualifier
Clinch title with 8-0 win over Marple Mad Russians
Marple-PA--CarToyz of Broomall swept the Major League Roller Hockey (MLRH)
Mid-Atlantic AA qualifier last Saturday at Marple Sports Arena downing another
Philly area team, the Marple Mad Russians, 8-0, in the final. MLRH AA is the
league's non-check Division.
The Mad Russians reached the final with an 8-7 OT win over the Alexandria,
VA Visigoths in their semi-final matchup. CarToyz eliminated Bridgewater
NJ in their semi-final game by the same 8-0 margin.
The tournament featured some highly competitive games with the CarToyz team
and the Visigoths going 3-0 in their preliminary round-robin games. Neither
team had easy going as CarToyz were pushed by the Russians (before
eventually winning 4-3), and the Rat Pack. The Rat Pack, while going 0-3,
almost upset CarToyz and led 8-6 midway through the final period before
eventualy losing, 11-10.
The Alexandria skaters were unbeaten in their round-robin but every game was
a struggle, posting a 5-4 win over the Rat Pack, a 9-8 win over Pottstown
and a 8-7 comeback win over the Russians. The Visigoths scored twice in the
final .38 seconds to steal that game.
The CarToyz' Mike Jacobs was named tournament MVP. The top four teams
advance to the MLRH National Championships September 6 & 7 at Marple Arena.
