MPC is proud to announce that our professional roller hockey team has won a coveted U.S. national roller hockey championship on Rink Rat, patented, wheels. The TORHS (Tournament of Roller Hockey Series) championship, as with most of the professional and amateur roller hockey played today, is tournament based competition with regional qualifiers.
Team Rink Rat competed July 11, 12 and 13 in Rochester, New York against many of the best roller hockey players and teams from the United States and Canada. In fact, tournament players from several teams, including Team Rink Rat, had players from the USA Gold Medal and Canadian Bronze Medal teams from the FIRS World Cup championship, played this past June in the Czech Republic.
Team Rink Rat beat the exceptional Tour Mudcats 7-6 in overtime in the Detroit regional qualifier to gain access to the championship. In the exciting opening game of the championship Team Rink Rat beat an outstanding Tour Labeda team in a close 3-2 game. A tough Buffalo team played Labeda to a draw and then eliminated the Mudcats 7-6 in overtime in the quarter finals. Team Rink Rat had already defeated Buffalo in a close 7-5 game while moving up the ladder, but Buffalo kept fighting defeating an excellent Bauer team to make it to the finals against Team Rink Rat. In a storybook championship game Team Rink Rat defeated Buffalo for the second time in a dramatic 7-6 overtime victory to win the national championship. Team Rink Rat finished an astounding 8-0-0 to win the TORHS pro division championship and the $40,000 first prize.
Last January in Las Vegas, Nevada Team Rink Rat played the prolific Team Mission to an 8-8 tie at the NARCh (North American Roller Hockey) Winternationals. The NARCh finals will be played in the Ft. Myers, Florida area July 17 through July 30 where Rink Rat and all of these outstanding teams will meet again to compete for another national championship. Remember: "It's What's Inside That Counts".
