View Full Version : Wheels in color...

I would really, really like for some manufacturer of decent wheels to begin to offer a given model(s) of wheels in a variety of colors...

Presently, the touch and feel of the wheels I like come in yellow...

The color I would like my wheels to come in would be blue...

I hafta think that the manufacturer that comes up with this will be waaayyy ahead of everybody else...

Manufacturer: "Here are my best three wheels...what model, what durometer and what color would you like yours in?"

I would even be willing to pay a little more...

Cyko guys? Rink Rat guys? Anybody?

You would think with pucks, tape, even helmets being offered in almost any clor you can think of that wheels would be the same too.

Oh no...variety would be bad...(total sarcasm there...)

Actually I think they try(manufacturers) to get the durometers and wheel construction indentifiable by color, so that it gives players another way to identify the wheels they want. Although I'm not sure if a couple of the Labeda Millenium Grippers weren't pretty much the same wheels in different colors.

As a former wheel sales rep, and pro shop owner I would like to offer a little insight.
Everyone tries to limit the SKU (number of products) offered for $$ and inventory purposes.
It boils down to this-would you give up depth of size, durometer, and style choices just so you can have different colors. The number of wheels a dealer or manufacturer carries is finite.
This would be the same as having a dealer stock more colors or models of a skate, but not having the sizes that are needed.
Function over form!

agreed, I find your trade-off considerations to be completely valid,

-however-

1. My point is that the manufacturer/dealer who would do this will have an distinct edge (that "waaayyy ahead of the market" thing).

2. I would contend that the difference between skates, at $100's of dollars in inventory per unit, and wheels, at what, maybe $2-3 per unit, does not make the expanded inventory preclusive...

perhaps we need the hockey equivalent of the Scotch Tape store in the old John Belushi Saturday Night Live skit:

"Wheels-R-Us?"

Ouch!! But I believe this thread was started by one of your male cohorts - and before this gets way out of hand, we'll save Richard some time and leave it at that!

Ah geez, fellas, with all due respect (however much that is in this case), gimme a break here...

go on and tell me to my face (electronically, anyway) that you pay no attention to colors in your pants, helmet, gloves, etc...

go on and tell us that your appearance, the cut of the pants, the size of the sweater, which uniform number you have, etc., etc., etc...all these have nothing to do with how you look, and feel about yourself, and that all this doesn't carry into your play???

of course they do, and that's one thing that makes this sport fun...

so there.

Hey...everyone likes to be color coordinated...of course...you should see my goalie gear...I've got a pair of leg pads the colors for the ducks, black/red/white catcher and blocker, an all black helmet, a stick that's blue and a jersey that's most likely going to be either yellow or orange...I'm a sight to see!

...and it was taken as no more than that! Just didn't want the male/female banter to get out of hand no matter how lighthearted. You should know by now I can take it and give it with the best of 'em!!! Smiles everyone, smiles!!!!!
