View Full Version : IN DESPERATE NEED OF GOALIE GEAR!

I currently am in serious need of my own goalie gear. My mom is a single parent who can't afford to buy me it (or the most expensive stuff) so I was figuring I could post here and see if any of you can help me out. You can check my profile for more about me or e-mail me for my life-story so I can explain why I can't afford it. I'm 16, about 5'9, and would wear a Sr. size Med-Large...I'm a goalie and since gear is so expensive, I'll take anything I can come by. Please let me know if you can help me out/donate anything/sell me something cheap! Not looking for brand new unless you are sure you don't want it...and hopefully not too worn, either...thanks a ton, guys!

What type of goalie gear are you looking for? Meaning, street goalie gear or indoor (puck) gear?

What is the max you are wanting to spend?

I'm looking for inline (puck) gear. And I really don't have a price range I can give you...just CHEAP is the key as money is my biggest issue...Thanks!

What kind of level of player are you? Rec league? Intermiedate? Elite? If I know that I could maybe help you find some gear at an affordable price.

I play in 2 house leagues at 2 diff. locations...both of which are 17u...Rec stuff wouldn't help me much, intermediate (I'll be honest) I've never heard anything about...The pads I generally use are just the house stuff (I believe they were Louisville TPS "Dominik Hasek" Models or something like that...size 34") Then the blocker was made by Tour and the glove by iTech. And then they had an assortment of sticks...I'm a normal goalie (catch hand is the left)...Thanks for any info/let me know if you need more.

What about Tour goalie pads? They are made for inline and are fairly inexpensive, well at least for goalie pads they are.

drewski

Yeah...I've looked into Tour...but I guess I should explain I'm poorer than poor...So while $180 looks cheap (and is...because I'd gladly take the pads)...I still can't afford it.

Do you have any play-it-again's around your house?

Hey don't worry you aren't the only one who's poor, I had to cut the grass just so I could get $5 for drop-in! Which turned out to be cancelled.

I have done much stupider things for $5 columbus;-) Hey when you are desperate you are desperate.

Yeah...I know what you mean...just to be able to play I'm stuck doing my grandma's yardwork for the summer (She still owns land, so it's like a 3 day job just to do it once...and I'm out there every 2 weeks!) Damn summer heat...

Yeah...I've tried hitting those up, too, but they don't carry much goalie gear (or if they do, it's all brand new and about $500 a set). The only real way I've seen people get their pads (well...the way I am praying I can get pads) is that someone just "donates" their old pair...unfortunately, they probably will give them to someone they know before the give them to someone over the internet...but a guy can dream, can't he?

True. My only suggestion is to started looking for rich goalies in Az. who will give you their old pads;-)

Haha...I wonder if the Phoenix Coyotes would mind a phone call from a 16 year old asking for a pair of Burke's, Bierk's, or Boucher's goalie pads...hmm...interesting!

Its worth a shot I guess. But good luck in your quest for goalie pads.

Maybe not, I know a few of the guys who play for the Blue Jackets and sometimes I can get some equipment from them. Try when t4raining camp starts because guys will be testing new equipment and so on, and if they don't like it they will give it to charity or something along those lines.

Yeah...I know what you mean...the likelihood of it is slim, but it's always worth a shot...especially when you're desperate.

Have you tried Ebay? It's my solution to almost everything, just like duck tape on the old pads.

Did you check any of the hockey retail stores, and see if they sell some used gear?

Josh

drewski
06-12-2003, 02:56 PM
Yeah...I've hit up most of the hockey retail stores except the pro shop at Polar Ice (nearby Ice hockey rink) and Behind the Mask...and I've checked eBay...they have some stuff, but I don't think I'm going to find a pair of leg pads for under $50 lol

I will keep my eye out for you, as I am surfing around. I will also check with my former boss who own's a hockey store.

Alright...thanks a ton! If he has just any pads that he can't get rid of or just are old and in the back or something, I'll take them! /wtimages/icons/smile.gif Thanks man!

I can talk to Joe, he and his brother own the major hockey store in town, I can also talk to some other people. My dad might be able to help, he's a goalie too, and if he ever gets new pads or another goalie does I'll talk to them about it.

And a peice of advice, I always use my grandparents to get new stuff.

drewski

I've tried the grandparents...the only problem is that the only ones alive are my dad's and they disowned me when I moved out of his household.

Thanks for looking into it, though! I truly appreciate it!

I know a guy who owns the Play-It-Again locally and I'll talk to him also. he can usually fix up a messed up pair. But I know what you're saying about the grandparents.... thank you grandpa for the synergy ^_^ lol

drewski
06-12-2003, 09:03 PM
Haha...I will have to say that the last roller hockey item I got (my blades) were paid for by my grandma before she disowned me...so luckily I still have a pair of Baur Vapor LE's...not the greatest skates, but definitely work well when you touch 'em up to your specifications!

Lol, actually I got my skates from my grandpa, I got my (now broken) synergy from Rick Nash, he used them during training camp before deciding to go with the Response.

Columbus you or your dad has to get me the hookup to the Bluejackets rejected equipment.

I can try, alot of new guys come in and they haven't chosen to go with a certain company yet, so when they make their decision they give out their stuff from the other manufacturers.

missionhockey21
06-12-2003, 09:21 PM
Sweet. But thats pretty cool you got a stick from Rick Nash, next time you should save it, it could be worth something one day ;-)

I don't know Denis but I can always try!

columbus_RHstar
06-12-2003, 09:23 PM
Why? It's not like he's any good! Nah actually he's the best on the team, I'd say.

drewski
06-12-2003, 09:24 PM
Yeah...I really wish I could get out more and meet some of these Coyote players...only one I've met is Burke...great guy (and was also in Florida so one of my fav. players)...of course, if I call and am like "Remember me!" he'll just be like "No. Don't call back" lol

One day he could be a superstar, I mean he is only like a couple of years older than us. I wish I was as good as he is. lol

columbus_RHstar
06-12-2003, 09:29 PM
Definitley, I only know him because he came to our school, when I was talking to him while he was there he was amazed that he had not been out of high school for very long.

columbus_RHstar
06-12-2003, 09:33 PM
Hey you never know!, I'd say the bets advice is to go to a game and get there real early, then talk to the players when they coe out, alot tend to come out and take a little skate before almost anyone gets there. You can talk to the players then and get to know them, let them know you play but you really could use some new equipment, it's not real polite if you don't need new stuff but in your case you do.

Thats awesome, does he seem like a cool guy?

columbus_RHstar
06-12-2003, 09:40 PM
Oh yeah he's definitley a cool guy, he came to a few games up at CORH before it closed :( He never made it out to a drop-in though, something about his contract, I'd have to liked to see him play inline though.

missionhockey21
06-12-2003, 09:42 PM
That would of been awesome for him to play drop in man. I know guys like Lindros have played inline.

columbus_RHstar
06-12-2003, 09:49 PM
Yeah definitley, I think Rich has played with Luc Robataille but I'm not positive.
