Hi Folks,

Here is some sad news from the 2003 Global Inline Hockey Festival.

***

The Global Inline Hockey Festival would like to thank all of the teams who participated in qualifying for the Globals at the Mission DNA Tourneys executed by Topcat Hockey, and to the international teams who volunteered countless hours to prepare their teams to travel and compete in the 2003 Globals. We would also like to thank the continued support the Globals has received from Mission Hockey. Without question, the sport of roller hockey worldwide has benefited through the continued efforts Mission Hockey has provided to assist the aspirations of athletes around the world.

As a result of the World Health Organization?s (WHO) press release on Monday, May 26th to once again add Toronto to the list of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) affected areas, the Global Inline Hockey Festival?s organizing committee has decided to cancel the 2003 events being held in close proximity to Toronto. Concerns expressed by many of the teams traveling to the Toronto area from outside Canada outweighed the benefits of continuing to execute the event this year.

Unfortunately with a year that experienced a split between the CIHA and the organizers of the Global Inline Hockey Festival SARS was a force that the organizers could not have expected and have been unable to overcome. Plans for the Globals going forward is to reload for 2004 and continue to discuss the future of this great event with roller hockey minds from around the world.

On a positive note? The all-star teams from Great Britain will continue to travel to Toronto, Ontario, Canada as a warm-up for their campaign to compete at the NARCh Finals in Florida. The Great Britain teams are looking forward to being hosted for exhibition games by both sanctioned and non-sanctioned members of the CIHA and are registering to play in the Can/Am Inline Cup in Brampton July 4-6. For teams not registered to play in the Can/Am Inline Cup and would like to challenge the Great Britain teams to an exhibition game please contact the Globals ([email protected]). Either way is a great opportunity to play against roller hockey enthusiasts from Great Britain.

We apologize for any inconvenience to groups planning to attend the 2003 Globals as it was not our intention to have the event conclude in this manner. I trust everyone will enjoy all of the great roller hockey events being held in the month of July and ask that when planning for next year to please visit www.globlinline.com to see what?s available to them at the 2004 Globals.

Best regards,

Gordon Blyth

Teams that committed to attending the Globals, via qualifying through the Mission DNA Tournament Series, will not be disappointed. Topcat Hockey has agreed to sponsor these teams to attend the Narch Finals in Estero, Florida, in lieu of their participation at the Global Inline Hockey Festival.

We regret the cancellation, but look forward to returning in 2004!
